Recent reviews on Amazon suggest this might have an Ironwolf Pro inside, it has free returns so gonna give it a go!

How will you return it though once it's been cracked open....? .... or is there a tool that tells you which drive is inside?

According to https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoar...expansion/ looks like it's shuckable but yeah you'd probably damage the enclosure removing the drive. One person got 1 drive intact out of 4.

Sounds like these are SMR drives too?

I'm running an Unraid server and even when I plug in a drive via USB it'll tell me the model of the drive inside. I'll just Google whatever the model number is before shucking.

the amazon reviews seem to point to SMR
Seagate don't manufacture any 10TB drives as SMR, try limiting reviews to just the 10TB model not the other sizes too.

How does that compare to the $155 EMAZ white labels in the WD units?

Iron wolf pro, aka exos. Its got a Exos X10 in it. There is literally no better drive on the market right now. Its helium one too ( 8tb and above is helium). EXOS X series are uprated 60c. That is why they put them in the fanless expansion cases vs "normal" hds that you start getting nervous when they get above 50c.

And yes they are perfectly shuckable (no you dont have to do the tape mod like the WDs) but they are not re shuckable. Even with a good set of guitar picks etc, you will break at least half the tabs. The case will go back together, but its not gonna be happy about it.

Buy 12TB or higher to get Seagate EXOS X16 helium drives.

What do you feed an Ironwolf? I love animals.
