S21+ is a downgrade from S20+ in every category except larger battery. So why would anyone upgrade? Are we dumb or is Sammy crazy??

UG I'm so torn on this. Generally I prefer smaller phones due to the way they fit in my hand doing things one-handed. That's one reason I deactivated my S10 and bought an iphone SE to use. Another reason was that with the curved edges, I always get accidental touches, and always worry about cracking the screen because cases have a lip that go over the top and bottom edges, but not the sides and if it drops and lands on something that only hits across the screen it has no protection. Just didn't like the curved edges. But because I get dry eyes all the time, work at a computer all day, and get eye strain/headaches I was about to reactivate it because of bigger screen/text.

I'm considering the S212 Ultra, but would hate to trade in the S10 and the ultra just be too big. So I have an iphone 8 plus I can trade in for $350 which is prob more I can get on ebay for it that's locked to cricket for another 4 months, signal was just too bad to keep using it to get it unlocked.

It would still be $800 but I would get value out of the 8plus just sitting here and still have the iphone SE and S10 if I needed and could probably resell the S21 if it was just too big. Plus the $250 towards extras and like $60 work benefits discount. But $550 trade in value for the S10 is pretty good, that's more than I paid for it new unlocked about 4/5 months ago.

Any ideas HOW flat the screen on this will be? Hard to tell if cases will will rise over the side edges of the phone from the few cases on samsung website. Just can't make up my mind on this, and whether to trade in the S10 or 8plus.

FYI, for folks using PerksatWork, check to see how many points they are givng for mobile devices. Its usually either 15 or 30. Right now for me its 30. And they will take the retail price of the phone when they calculate your points (not the cost after trade in). so that is 30 points try $1000 = which is 30k points or $300.

Is it worth $300 to upgrade from S10E to S21?

Generally speaking. Just regular phone user, surf and take pics.
Upgrading my S10E. Going for the 120hz screen and faster processor. Camera is better on S21. I don't need SD card and headphone slot. I'm paying $12 for the buds pro so I'm good with that
S10E tradein value will probably go lower this year and S21 value should be good for 2 years to be traded in for S23

I got a note 8... I love the phone, but getting 400$ for it when its 4 yrs old, seems like a good deal. Not having an mSD slot though makes me sad.... and no headphone jack Frown seems like those are going away anyways tho

Sharing some of my notes on going from S20 to S21.

I usually like to wait for formal reviews to come out but the trade in values and pre-order credits are insane this year.

In total $95 to upgrade ($50 if you sell your accessories)

Pros and cons upgrading from S20 to S21 base model:

+ Snapdragon 888, 5nm (865 is 7nm), claims ~50% performance increase
+ Adreno 660 S21 vs Adreno 660 S20, claims ~33% performance increase
+ flat screen (easy to find tempered glass protectors finally)
+ variable refresh (48-120hz) should improve battery life
+ Gorilla Glass Vicious on S21 vs Gorilla Glass 6 on S21, claim is 2x scratch resistance
+ adds 5G mmWave bands that aren't included on S20
+ S21 internal storage is UFS 3.1 vs S20 UFS 3.0, 3x seq write speed increase (read speed 1x same)
+ Product under warranty extra year
+ Fresh Battery
+ S21 camera performance improvements in the dark
+ 5G processor now embedded into snapdragon 888 die, slight increase performance and energy savings

- No MST
- No SDCARD, use auto cloud backup service instead
- S21 has 8GB memory vs S20 12GB memory, not likely to see any diff unless super heavy user.
- S21 is heavier at 171grams vs S20 at 163grams
- Don't like the camera placement in the back so close to the corner, makes cases less effective to protect on impact.

= S20 is only 120hz @ FHD and 60Hz @ QHD resolution, most keep it at FHD
= S20 has Glass back , vs S21 has plastic back, no matter since most have it in a case
= No Charger, after using trade-in later couple years I have many chargers laying around
= No earbuds with S21, again have many from previous phones

Would you guys say trading in a note 8 for 350$ is worth it? I'd probably have to get the s21 ultra though to get the spen.... and the 512gb to match my note 8 with msd card.... so I'd end up paying 1000 still Frown sure, with 10% off on cashback...so 900... plus educator -40, and the 260$ in accessories. I guess for earbuds? And a tablet?

Ugh was my year to upgrade but looks like I might actually switch to the iphone or give Samsung one more shot to redeem themselves with the next note.

This thing is a downgrade from the S10+. No SD Card, plastic case, flat screen...If i wanted to deal with all that yeah i'd just use the more proven interface setup with apple.

Anyone finding that some of the bundle accessory "deals" are not really deals at all? For instance, with the 512 GB S21 Ultra with the edu discounts in effect, the Buds Pro Power Bundle leaves you with $20 credit leftover of the $250 credit vs. $42.67 leftover when you add all 3 items separately. Am I missing something, or does it seem like the bundles are for people that can't be bothered to do math and don't mind getting a little ripped off? Lol sorry if someone already brought this up earlier.

This is a disappointing upgrade for someone like me that's held onto my tried and true S9+ for 3 years now, but all these discounts and cashback stacking stacking (don't forget Chase 5% too folks!) make it seem like a bit of a better pill to swallow. I love the Phantom Brown look and gonna get that I think even if it takes an extra month.

Update: Wowww those assholes increased the prices now of the accessories!!

For the trade in I had with S20 and A71 deals, PAW points was calculated at the final price I paid.

I believe it's the Chase Freedom card. Few years ago they counted Samsung as Phone service category. No longer the case, I do not see it listed in the merchant list here https://creditcards.chase.com/fre.../merchants

Had tried this last year with S20 purchase in the same category, it was just 1%
