I have the older version of this and while the battery is not meant to be user serviceable, replacing it yourself is both easy and cheap. A new battery is about $15 on Amazon and replacing it just involves using a shim to pop the case open. ifixit.com has a guide.
Your advice is still good advice. I'm just saying it's not the end of the world if you do have to replace the battery.
This same unit was on SD a couple weeks ago for $108 shipped direct from FLIR. Received mine before Christmas, works great btw.
You can use the real deal ( Flir or Fluke) for free ( SF for me or check your Utilty Co. ) https//pge.myturn.com/library/ Free tool loan!

Do you have a link for the battery? I've tried to find one with the same specs as original and didn't see one.
I have the Pro One with lightning adapter and it can be adjusted to butt right up against my iPhone no matter what kind of case I have on. I would never use this with an adapter because you would be begging to snap the connector off.
It's really fun to play with. I can see which wires in my panel are warmer than others. I can see animals in the trees and their latent footprint heat (probably the most fun you can have with it is seeing footprints). I used it in a crawl space in the middle of the winter last year to see how far down my drain clog was. Looking for spots where cold air is coming in is cool.
Bear in mind that this unit has half X-Y (quarter) the resolution of the non-LT version. I had a Chinese thermal camera with these specs years ago and wasn't satisfied.
I'm wondering if when using the Micro to USB-C adapter and holding it like the guy is in the picture if the leverage will be too much and the weight would damage the charging port. This is because the camera would be an inch or so away from the phone, with the charging port as the fulcrum of the lever.
From many years ago in high school mechanical advantage equals force times distance or something like that.
I'm using another phone-tethered imaging tool, using radar, called WalaBot.
I hold the radar unit on the back of the phone with thin rubber bands I sourced, with a short cable connection that comes with the unit from that factory.
Why I mention the above is because the connection here isn't secure, as you correctly mentioned, therefore a short cable could be used to tether to the phone, with rubber bands used to mount the camera to the back of the phone.
........ I wouldn't know where you can Source those short cables But the people at WalaBot might(?)
If someone were handy with CAD/CAM, they could design a "universal" phone clip for this camera, to mount on the back of phones, then print it on a 3D printer.

And distance readings like 100 yards?

Based on the reddit post it is a slightly smaller capacity.

The resolution is quite low, but it's still higher quality and precision than Chinese copies

No good unless you're almost right on top of them.
Really? Why would libraries have this to check out? I would love to be able to just check one of these out.
