Per the link below that Southwest updated today (and e-mails also sent out this morning), Southwest is giving all Rapid Rewards members (with account opened by 12/31/20) a bonus of 25,000 Companion Pass qualifying points (see link below). So, you now only need 100,000 points to get it instead of 125,000.points.
https://www.southwest.com/RRcoronavirusupdates/
When combined with the Southwest credit card offer here (
https://slickdeals.net/f/14654390-southwest-rapid-rewards-plus-premier-priority-credit-cards-earn-up-to-80-000-bonus-points-w-12-000-spent-in-first-months?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1), that means you only need an additional 20,000 points to get Companion pass.
QA Note: You can still see the 80k point offer on the main Southwest link here https://www.southwest.com/. The offer expires 2/8/2021
BUT, in order to get to the 80000 point level, you will earn another 10,000 points minimum for your purchases. So, now you only need to earn an additional 10,000 points to get companion pass (versus 35,000 previously). For me, at least, this puts companion pass in reach so hopefully it does for others as well and makes this credit card/bonus even more useful. Enjoy!
Note: To clarify (as shown in the attached picture), the 25,000 points are qualifying points toward Companion Pass only and are not general points deposited into your Rapid Rewards account.

In order to use it for 2022-2023, you would need to get the card after September (since you only have 3 months to get the initial 50,000 points) plus you wouldn't have the help of the bonus 25,000 points they announced today as they only apply for 2021 (the credit card bonus points would accrue in 2022). So, yes, 2022-2023 would be better from a usage standpoint, but, for me anyway, achieving a companion pass looks to be much easier in 2021.
As they say, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, right?

For those without the card, this doesn't open an opportunity to get the 25K.
For those who have the card and qualify, it will automatically be added.
So no action for anyone to take?
Also, the 25,000 points goes to all Rapid Rewards members (as of 12/31/20) and has nothing to do with the credit card. The point of this post is to show how one can use it combined with the credit card bonus to their advantage.
So, this post will help people in a similar situation recognize a change in the opportunity that they may not have realized. The action to take is to change your spending plans in order to get companion pass. If it doesn't apply to you, then move along.

In Maui right now on CP. Grand total for 4 was $300.
If you have someplace to fly, flights are cheaper than ever. I debate whether that makes my CP worth less because it saves me less money per ticket, or worth more, because I'll fly more if the first ticket is cheaper.
So confusing...
Are all RR members who signed up before 2021 getting 25,000 free points?
And, if so, are we about to see points devalue?

No, the points aren't available for use. They just effectively reduced the cost of the tiers, but only for existing RR members. The CP tier ironically goes back down to the 100k level it was at before.

And, I don't think this implies a devalue as they had already increased the companion miles from 105,000 to 125,000. But, then again, after 2020, anything is possible I suppose!
Oh thanks. Roundoff error.
You can't? I thought you could do it with one regular and one business card.
Not sure how I got mine last year. I guess the 5x points on supermarkets adds up. Did they also have a promo for 5x on SW purchases, or was it just 2x? Flights will get you a net 8 points for WGA fares, 6 for the flight and 2 for the card.
So 9000 pts a month is somewhere between $2000-9000 in spending. less if you're flying.
One $500 refundable RT for work will garner you 5000pts.
