Boss Audio BE10ACP Car Stereo -Android CarPlay Digital Multimedia Receiver - $229 at Autozone B&M only, $329 everywhere else

Link for reference only. B&M only, Autozone web guys couldn't find it when I called but it was sitting on the shelf at the local store. Appears to be their regular price, not sure why they're $100 cheaper than any other seller. Maybe even cheaper with a coupon.

Boss Audio BE10ACP Digital Multimedia Receiver with (wired) Android Auto and CarPlay, 10.1" capacitive touchscreen, rear and front camera inputs, USB charging, removable and adjustable screen, external mic, etc.

Yeah, I know, Boss audio isn't known for high quality but for $250 out the door at your local Autozone, you're getting a LOT of bang for not much buck. I looked around and the closest big name that compares feature to feature is an Alpine unit that is $999. I've had it in my car for a few days and I'm very happy with it. So much so that I bought a second one for my wife's car. When I bought the second one, I mentioned that I was trying to buy it online as there was a discount available but it shows as in store only. The guy at the store gave me a 10% discount. YMMV.
Waiting on the install kit to be delivered so I can install hers. Single DIN so if you have double din like our cars, you'll need a kit with some kind of space filler. Crutchfield said it doesn't "fit" my car as but it went in using the same single DIN kit I got from them for the JVC (No screen or carplay and the Bluetooth was going out) I replaced with this one.
Crutchfield, Amazon, etc. all have this unit for $329. Good reviews at that price. For $100 less than that I imagine the reviews would be even better.
Unit comes with 3 year warranty from Boss. Autozone also gives a 1 year in store repair/replacement warranty with this unit. Details on your receipt.

This looks like a pretty good deal overall for a 10 inch screen.

I heavily considered boss and the higher end brands, but ended up going with Atoto A6 from Amazon. Look, I know what a lot of people will say but having Android on the device plus the opportunity to install whatever apps you want is a big difference. Also, it comes with WiFi, so you can just hotspot your phone and do whatever you want on the screen.

Price is about $280 regular. 3400+ reviews on Amazon. I didn't know about these Android stereos but highly recommend.

This boss is a pretty good deal too, though.

Isn't Boss a junk brand like Jensen,Kraco and Pyramid or have things changed. I'm still stuck in the 80's and use Alpine head units in my older vehicles.

That does indeed look like a good unit, lots of features. I didn't see CarPlay available but that makes sense being that it's Android based. I'm sure the Boss unit is Android as well but it had CarPlay and that was a requirement for me.

That's what I've always assumed as well. I'd never considered Boss. I was looking at the Sony AX-1000 on Crutchfield, then they put the AX-5000 on sale but it sold out before I could bite. I stumbled across this one while looking around and was tempted for $330. I found a video on youtube and someone there posted that Autozone had it for $230. I gave in to the temptation.

The Boss does have CarPlay but why I ended up NOT going with it (or the Kenwoods, Alpines, etc) is because you have to plug in your phone via USB anytime you want CarPlay. I didn't love the idea of having that cable hanging around.

The other thing too is future apps. To be honest, I only really care about music, maps and maybe a couple of other things, but in the case that I need something else, the Android ones can handle it. With these, you don't really know how much RAM is in there, so that concerned me.

One thing you might want to know is if you buy the unit from BestBuy, they have free installation. It someone cancels out the deal but saves you on installation - if you can't do it yourself. Of course, who knows - they might try to charge some other things but when I was shopping, they said their free installation promo covers it.

Boss isn't junk but it's just budget. It's hard to say what that means these days, though. Kenwood, Alpine, etc. are supposedly better for sound but how much do you trust them handling software? The difference is - from what I understand - in the support as they apparently have excellent customer service and excellent support. I'm sure you'll do fine. Honestly, at $229 for a 10-inch screen to bring your interior/stereo into the modern era, it's a great deal.

I don't know how far and wide you looked but you can get something just as good or better, for a lot less than $999. Don't know where you got that figure. Sure, the oversized screen seems to be a nice feature but Jensen [crutchfield.com] has one just like it. As far as the other features go, it seems to be lacking from what I can tell on the Crutchfield description (no high pass filters and limited low pass filter options, only vanilla 10 band eq, no time alignment, etc). This headunit has a dimmer input but reviews say that it doesn't get dim enough for nighttime driving. And reviewers mentioned that steering wheel controls didn't work either. That right there would be a deal breaker for me. Have you tried the steering wheel controls? Are they not programmable?

I never understood the wireless Android auto and car play feature. You're paying a premium for it when you probably are going to have to plug in the phone anyway if you're using android auto/car play features like GPS. Most modern vehicles with it aren't even wireless.

I'm not 100% sure what you are saying exactly. In my opinion, it's such a cheap and easy thing to put in (a little wireless antenna) that it's surprising that Kenwood, Alpine, etc. don't.

Almost all of the Android options on the market all have Android Auto as a wireless option. That way if you want to tether with a cable or tether wirelessly, you have that choice.

I'd look into the new jvc 10" option over boss. Never use boss it's known to be unreliable and lower quality that's why it's cheaper folks.

Jvc and kenwood are both trash (same company now). Have a double din Kenwood head unit in a vehicle and it's super flakey. Nothing ever works right. Make a phone call and all the settings reset and the clock seems to lose about a half hour a week. And it's always freezing up. I'm considering getting something cheap like this now to replace it. That's how bad it is.

I'm saying that it's not a totally useless feature, but typically when you're using android auto or apple's car play you're going to have to plug it in regardless (for charging purposes). What difference does it make whether you plug it into the head unit or the cigarette lighter outlet? I can't answer the question of the cost to have it (I'm sure it's a little more involved than just an antenna) but the aftermarket manufacturers do have it on a bunch of their models. Sometimes it costs double or more for that feature, well to get a unit with that wireless feature. That's the way it's been for a lot of years now on a lot of other things. For example, you go to get a basic commuter car from a dealership and notice that a base model you were looking at doesn't have a feature that you want like say cruise control. They have it though on an upgraded model which has keyless start, power sunroof, nicer wheels, etc. etc. So you essentially end up paying 5 grand for cruise control if you really want to have it.

And I just wanted to say a word about those no name brand android head units out there. I know that they cram a ton of features into those headunits but I've looked into those in the past and they're typically junk (especially the ones on Amazon). I've noticed over the years that a lot of items pop up on Amazon and then disappear a few months later. And a lot of these items have a ton of "good reviews". As a matter of fact I had a few of those headunits in my cart when I was shopping around for them less than 2 years ago that are no longer available. From my research it sounds like they work for a few months then start to act up. By that point Amazon wont accept them back and there's no warranty support to speak of. I know that Boss isn't anything too great but the fact that Crutchfield carries them means that they can't be all that bad now (I've dealt with them many times in the past and they always stand behind what they sell).

I did the install myself. I used the single din kit I already had from installing the JVC that was in my car before. Crutchfield said it wouldn't work (well, they didn't recommend it) but it worked perfectly.

Neither of my vehicles have steering wheel controls but the Boss unit has an input wire for them.
The Jensen you mentioned is $20 more on Crutchfield but is $120 more than the Autozone price for the Boss with a few less features. I equate Boss and Jensen the same quality. Neither is amazing.
I don't have an issue with the dimmer but I do keep my dash lights on full brightness while driving. Maybe that's the difference?

Replaced a two year old JVC with this one as the Bluetooth was intermittent at best. The final straw was the Bluetooth disappearing when I ended a call. It would show connected to my phone but wouldn't respond. Had to power cycle the radio and disable/enable Bluetooth on my phone for it to work again.
