The problem with this preowned one is: you cannot use it with XFinity unless the previous owner released his MAC with Xfinity. I had to returned it to Walmart after half an hour arguing with XFinity.

My problem with this model even new is it doesn't get full speed with xfinity. It should be able to do 680 mbps but I have been only getting 350 or something. I think they throttle it somehow.

sign up for a decent vpn (nordVPN or similar) or at least a trial on one and see if youre being throttled.

I think you totally misunderstood. It seems xfinity throttles this modem from their end to everyone. I don't understand why it would have anything to do with vpn. Here I am attaching a screenshot under xfinity device, which says this modem only can go up to 375 mbps but if you go to manufacturer's site it says 680 mbps or something. It's possible xfinity throttles all docsis 3.0 modem so you have to buy 3.1 to get good speed. I am using xfinity 600 mbps plan. https://imgur.com/a/xNDgCTj

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is due to the way Comcast allocates its bandwidth across the available channels, which ends up being around half the DOCSIS 3.0 standard.

It would have been fine if you got a slower plan. Amazon page says this modem is for plans up to 300. It doesn't matter what Netgear says it can do when ISPs have the final say. You shelled out for 600 so you may as well get a better modem than this.

First (pre) update... Threw in some odds and ends to get the order over $35. Everything was expected to arrive tomorrow, but today they decided to send my peanut butter in a Walmart shopping bag via a dude in a Camry 😂. I'll take it!

Modem arrived today, and online setup was easy. However, I'm only maxing out around 360mbps via speedtest.net
