Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

Walmart listing (shows no inventory; see note above) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-.../109707311

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

has anyone here Reserved theirs and then gone to the store and there is 0 inventory?

i dont want to drive for hours if the Reserving system is bogus....
Yes, I went to a store and I had one on reserve but when I got there they told me they sold it yesterday. Kind of upset since I drove an hour out to get it.

The reserve system seems totally unrelated to actually purchasing a phone. Maybe it just tells you inventory available.

I bought two XS Max 256 and am currently going through the install process. The phone is doing a software update currently. I purchased for AT&T and signed up for your Bring your Own Device (apparently $40 per phone/mo). I have T-Mobile. I have not put in the AT&T sim, just moved my T-Mobile sim over and am waiting for the installation to complete. I will report back.

I have confirmed that T-Mobile works with at least one phone. I will let my wife try the other phone when she's free.
Updated. I am now confirming that the US Reseller Policy is in place. Checking under General -> About -> Carrier Lock, it is SIM locked. I am on the phone with T-Mobile to remove it.

Wow that sucks! I was about to do that right now with a 1.5 hour drive.
Maybe I should call first?

Had 2 Verizon XS Max 256gb reserved, but the wireless guy or the manager would not sell outright, no budging whatsoever - something to the effect of we don't sell phones outright. The more I explained, in the end he comes showing a screen no Verizon XS's left ... smh

Whatever, dealing with Walmart is a hit or miss, so can't complain when its this price ... only went here because of the 256 said in stock, will try another store.

So wait, you put in the T-Mobile Sim and it locked to T-Mobile?

Typical Walmart experience in Mason OH. 3 folks at electronics counter, none were wireless. All were "we don't know what that is, go to the front tower for pickup". OSL not been there in a year. Clueless, wireless person supposed to be there tomorrow so will try again I guess. Emailed OSL like was suggested earlier. Expected it to be painful and Walmart delivered.

UPDATE: I guess wireless person was the key as Dan the Man figured it out on my second trip. Unopened XS Max, unlocked per GSX report I got. Thanks for heads up OP!

Which store did you go? If you don't mind sharing?

Yeah, that's the first sim I put it and it carrier locked. I just got off the phone with a customer service representative and they're removing it, says typically takes 24-48 hours. FYI, if you have to do this, give them the IMEI2 number if you're calling T-Mobile. The IMEI/MEID is not what they need.

EDIT: They came back stating that they cannot remove the lock because it's not showing up in their tools. If you want your phone unlocked, do NOT plug your T-Mobile Sim into the device.

ATT is easier. No cost.
Why not T-Mobile? I have TMO, so presumably they would unlock for free, since I bought outright, correct? (I purchased Verizon version).

If you have T-Mobile, great. Do they unlock for non-customers like ATT does?

They did for the S71 everyone bought recently.

Perfect. Not sure why you asked then. Looks like ATT or T-Mo are options for unlock.
