Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

Walmart listing (shows no inventory; see note above) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-.../109707311

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

If I put in an inactive prepaid at&t sim and then request for unlock from at&t portal as guest? Would it unlock?
Yes, it will

Can anyone confirm that they did this for their regular XS? Meaning activated with AT&T SIM and the submitted for unlock portal with success? I've tried the unlock portal before inserting any SIM but I get "Your IMEI number & device don't match ". Thanks in advance.

If I reserve 2 phones at a store and it says I have 48 hours to get them, and I don't go get them tomorrow, can someone else just walk in and ask to buy a iphone XS without reservation and the store rep removes it from the cage for another buyer, which was reserved for you? Does Walmart even Honor their Reservation system?

In the Reservation Email there is no confirmation number or anything. It doesn't show any unique number for my account.
It depends if the employees at that store actually reserve the phones for you on WARP. When you reserve online, the store gets the notification and an employee has to physically pull them from the stock and note the IMEIs on WARP. If they are too lazy to do that, yes, anyone can just walk in and buy them.

Worst case - conjure up a realistic temper tantrum in front of a manager - That old go-to has got me a lot of bargains (may require some acting lessons.)
This is hilarious. I witnessed a guy do this when I was snooping around today for the phones. Apparently the chick from the third party was giving him a hard time. Not sure if it worked or not.

They were adamant that only the OSL people can do anything with those phones. In the end I emailed OSL and got a call from someone within the hour. She got someone there for me today and I picked up 2 of 3 I had reserved (said that's all they had). Downside was they were open, but never activated. I tried briefly to get some kind of discount because of it, but ended up not pushing. Going to try a couple more stores tomorrow where I have reservations and if I need to I'll contact the local OSL person again.
How do you find the OSL people email?

Tried to pick up two more at a different location and the rep was willing to sell them but they were ringing up at 499. He wasn't going through warp (didn't know how) so I guess that's why. Or they were prepaids?

those are probably unlocked version but not postpaid (but full price and no contract) version.
Same thing happened to me. Reserved the $199 one and Associate was able to see the reservation. End of the day, had to go back empty handed.

No, I'm waiting on confirmation from someone else who have already done it.

Scored one - Thanks OP! After visiting one Walmart with none available I went back online and noticed a small link on the top of the page to find in store. I found and reserved one XS Max 64GB at another Walmart and headed over. After I made the reservation I thought about adding another but it was listed as unavailable so I think it was the last one. Went to the electronics area and asked if they had any XS Max phones before telling them about my reservation. The employee said that they had XS Max 64GB silver but Walmart contracted with a company and could not sell it without a plan. I pointed to the sign referenced in this thread about being paid in full and the employee acknowledged and said he had to call the manager. Was expecting an argument but the manager said to just sell it to me. No WARP system, just rang it up at $199 plus tax. They said they did not want/need my reservation number so as others have mentioned reservations are useless. I have activated and confirm it is not carrier locked - it says in settings "No SIM restrictions". Note that it does list "Coverage Expired" in settings so I will have to call Apple support to give them the correct purchase date and proof. I am positive it was new as the plastic was still on the box.

So will both the Sprint versions of Xs and Xs Max work on T-mobile?

Also, do they insist on booting on the Sprint SIM in the store? Would that kill my odds of running on T-mobile if they did?

Is it worth going late at night? Or only between those 11-7 hours just in case? I have one on reserve about 30 minutes away but am considering running out to my closest 2 stores now since they'll be much less people there.

As it said no sim restrictions
Which carrier did you choose initially while buying it ?

I went into a store last weekend to check on a laptop. I asked the girl if she could look up an item by SKU and she said they don't look up an item by SKU. Seriously, some walmart employees make you wanna punch them in the face.
