Just in, 2/10/21 New CDC guidance on double masking. The benefits are clear: In the CDC study, a medical procedure mask alone blocked 42% of particles from a simulated cough, while a cloth mask alone blocked 44%. A cloth mask covering a medical procedure mask blocked 92.5% of the cough particles. And don't layer another mask on top of a KN95, either. That mask should be used alone, the CDC says. https://www.npr.org/sections/coro...ronavirus?

ALERT, Office Depot may be sending out fakes. See image below, OD on right, not the same as pictured on OD and other sites. BonaFidesmasks certified dealer on left. Powecon mentions OD as selling fakes. Office Depot is no longer on Powecom's "Fraudulent Website" webpage. http://www.powecom.com/Fraudulent_Websites.html

Not sure about the picture that is posted, but the masks that we received through another source are like the ones on the right and the packaging authenticity scratch off number passed the Powecom verification website. Bonafidemasks also provides a link to that "anti-fake check," so, either the right hand masks are also genuine, or the Powecom verification process doesn't work.

Powecom packaging has a scratch off verification number. You can go to http://www.powecom.com/verification.html and input the number that is revealed and the website will show whether they made that package or not.

98% efficiency when worn properly based on CDC testing:

Consumers should generally avoid shopping for such masks on Amazon and eBay, experts say. Instead, people should refer first to the CDC's list of N95 alternatives that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves for use in health care settings and try to buy them directly from the manufacturer.

Testing standards for KN95 is actually slightly more rigorous than the N95 designation (as shown here by 3M's comparison [3m.com]). It is a standard, but that doesn't mean people aren't producing fakes for easy money during a pandemic, just like fake N95s or the masks people buy from Etsy. Powecom KN95 masks have been tested 17 times by the CDC since April 2020 (https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/r...sults.html) and have exceeded the N95 designation standard of 95%+ filtration every time except for once in May in which they tested at 93-94%.
These masks are very good but personally it's not much more for the two strap version which gives a more secure fit. I bought mine from bonafidemasks.com.
I received my two packages from Office Depot today. I went to the Powecom website and followed their instructions for verifying the masks. Both packages have the anti-fake sticker. I scratched the coating to reveal the validation code. And both codes check out as valid. So, it appears the two packages I got from Office Depot are not fake. But as a side note the photos you uploaded look just like my masks and packaging.

I wear the mask and goggles too. A lot of views change when they stick a tube in your throat if your ICU has room for you. Good luck.

Does anyone have tips on re-using them, or is that not recommended?

I was very pleasantly surprised dealing with them. The website looked really sketchy to me, but I went ahead and bought from them. At first, a couple packages of masks were missing from my delivery: but I called them and they were extremely helpful, and got the missing masks resent without any fuss or hassle! It's always relieving to find companies that actually have a customer support service you can contact, and who are genuinely helpful.

I ordered these masks for $15 Amazon for my mom and myself. Saw this sale and bought up to 4 packets. My mom likes them. Two were delivered to my mom in CA the next day. I was really impressed with Office Depot!

It's been 5 days since my order. Yesterday I received an exception notification that delivery couldn't be made because of the locked apartment building door. I text Office Depot CS and long story short, CS assures me the driver will come back around today and deliver--and notify me with a call. No delivery today. I reach out to CS again and their initial reply was that delivery was made. The frustrating part with today's text conversation, it seemed the rep had no clue or insight to the conversation I had yesterday. Think about it, if it was delivered, why did I send you the screenshot of your email informing me of a delivery exception?! Your own system told me there was a delivery exception! And now, it's delivered? Where? Ugh.

Did anyone else have their credit card # stolen when ordering these? I did on about 1/26. Credit card # and email addy both misused after this order. Could have been coincidence but I don't think so.

Yeah, though I think the ear loop version is good if you are going to a doctor and need to take off your mask for examination or labs; especially if you have long hair. Also, you can create a great seal using tape, namely 3M Micropore or Transpore tape, on leaky spots. And don't forget to clean shave, having a beard greatly diminishes mask effectiveness and makes removing tape less painful.

I know not everyone wants to spend $57 dollars. However at $57 for 50 a mere 14c more each you can get a Kimberly-Clark N95 Pouch Respirator NIOSH approved (TC# 84A-9042), Made in U.S.A from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Kimberly-Clark-Respirator-53358-Universal-Respirators/dp/B08NVDFB3R/ref=sr_1_... yeah, there is another SD post on that. https://slickdeals.net/f/14792518-50-pack-kimberly-clark-n95-pouch-respirators-57-90-free-shipping?v=1 Seemed popular but I was very disappointed in the quality, not to mention how strange looking they are. Seemed like flimsy material and cheap construction so I guess you get what you pay for. The straps look like they could snap at any second and that is one thing you don't want to have happen in a crowd.

I never had problems with the powecon straps, I don't know what others are doing wrong. I have to take off my hat and glasses for the head straps but ear loops are a lot easier.

I've been wearing these since last summer. I have ear savers and with those you can reuse them many times while still keeping a tight fit that doesn't bother your ears. =initial
The hard thing with reuse is you don't know when the filtration efficiency decreases. Masks rely in part on electrostatic attraction to capture the smallest particles that would otherwise be small enough to sail right through. (Think .01 micron) So, the mask might look like it's in good shape, but I don't think we know we can say it's still really working.

My soap box here for a second, I'm in non-acute care health care, so, we're not dealing directly with Covid patients other than when our residents catch it. (Multiple outbreaks over the past several months) My role over the past year has been to be the primary point of contact for acquiring PPE for our organization. I think it's completely ridiculous that a year into this and health care organizations like mine are still having to scramble to find things like KN95's, wonder about their authenticity, and beg and borrow to get even a small supply of N95's. We've seen about 3 boxes of legit 3M medical masks the whole time and the rest have been N95 masks intended for non-medical industrial use.

The state recently got us some PPE to help out. 20 "N95's" that are foldable style but with head straps so they may or may not be legit, and about 120 KN95 masks that are labeled "N95" and are clearly neither of the above. Oh, yeah, they also got us a some hand wipes and a 5 gallon cube of hand sanitizer. You know, with all that evidence about surface transmission.

All these masks are junks - the strap comes off. Sometimes as soon as you wear it.
It should be 10-15 cents apiece. You wear it for an hour and then throw it.
Your "all" statement implies you are grouping this particular mask in with knock offs or who knows what, but have not actually purchased this particular mask. Otherwise you wouldn't be making generalizations...

I have these masks, verified to be authentic through powecom's website. They are not junk, the straps do not come off. These so far are the most comfortable masks I've bought, that still actually filter.

I have a few other no name "KN95" masks, that do exactly as you describe, perhaps you are confusing these powecom masks with those?

Only one, CDC only recommends wearing multiple masks if they are not N95, KF94 or KN95.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/...7007e1.htm

The whole point isn't really to add more layers, it's to get a tighter fit. N95, KF94 and KN95 masks inherently have a tighter fit, provided you have the right sized mask.

I wore those type of masks (medical certified though) back when I volunteered at a hospital. When I was shown how to wear a respirator, that style of mask was the easiest to get a perfect seal. A big reason is the nose area does not have a crease. They are one of the few designs where size isn't critical to getting a good fit. You don't need a large or small version of that mask, it just fits most faces.

Yes. I use the headband style since they seal better and have had zero issues. I use them maybe...10 times, 4 days apart and rotate them. This is the only reasonably priced, approved brand that fits well. For me. No COVID and I'm out in a grocery store once to twice per week but early A.M. staying away from people. This is NOT intended use or following correct instructions but I still "feel" even with reduced protection that the seal alone is far, far better than the surgical or cloth masks most wear.
