If the volume knob is turned high enough, it will emit an audible white noise.
If you adjust the volume knob too often, eventually the internal mechanism will degrade and static/pop will occur from the speakers during adjusting only.
For the two reasons above, my suggestion is keeping the volume knob low/medium level (Mine is at about 25-30%) and instead use your PC (or whatever you're connecting it to) to increase/lower instead.
That said this is a good deal for the price and a solid product given the longevity.

That said, I went from some generic USB speakers to these and am simply blown away. They fill my home office with perfectly clear and balanced sound. Absolutely love them and debating about replacing my aging Vizio sound bar in my living room with these.
I got these before black Friday for $90, not an audiophile, but everything sounds so much better on them.
I listen to a lot of recordings of interviews on these the sound is so clear it sounds better than the actual interview.
I would pay a little more to get something at Costco because I know that if it breaks a year later, I don't have to go through the warranty process.
Also I always make money on the Costco membership and that's not counting the savings on gas, so the membership isn't a problem for me.

I got a second set which came with BT... And that one was an absolute nightmare. Anyone could pair with it without a code and there's no way to turn BT off.

I have my source volume at about 50%, that usually limits the volume knob to the lower 50%. For the scratchy potentiator / volume knob issue, I've applied Deoxit D5 - lubed and cleaned it nicely. Haven't had issues for weeks now, we'll see how it holds up.
ya beat me!
