Microsoft has recently announced that the price of Xbox Live Gold is going up. The $60 1 year membership will now be $60 for a 6 month membership. If you are subscribed at the current rate they will honor a renew at your old price.

Retailers are now carrying the new $60 6 month cards. You can get ahead by stocking up on the old cards at their original price points being the price hike. This will make the gamepass trick more expensive too at the new price points, so now is the time.

I've provided a few good prices below. Take advantage while you can.

Costco: 2 years for $95.00

Target: 1 year for $59.99

Amazon: 1 year for $59.99

I don't know if EA Play is an option. That seems like an exclusive partnership between Microsoft and Electronic Arts, but that's purely speculation on my part — no research on my end. What I'm hoping for is a Sony-UbiSoft pairing. Would LOVE to see Assassins Creed and all the other UbiSoft titles added to the PlayStation Now library. That would nudge me to finally get a Now subscription.
You know what ur probably right I would think EA and Microsoft have a couple year deal on that partnership(EA play) im just thinking of other subscriptions/options that PS could do to sweetin there service. The more I think about it I could defenitly see a ubisoft + playstation partnership in the future. I will say I bought a year sub of ps now and its been awesome with the PS5. Streaming is decent quality and all of the ps4 games including a couple Ubisoft if I can remember that are downloadable thats just as if owning the game itself. It's been a great service so far and I like the selection better akin to gamepass

They are obviously doing this because of the cheap way of converting xbl to up to 3 years of ultimate. $145 for 38 months of ultimate is what it worked out to for me.

I'm an Xbox fanboy but I know a bad deal when I see it. People here calling people PS5 fanboys?
All Live gold gives you is the ability to play your current games... the free monthly gold games are complete crap. Ultimate is what let's you play a large selection of games without having to buy them.

Honestly, just going to switch to PS when I buy into next gen in a couple years. That's such a nuts price hike.

If you have under 1 year left of gamepass ultimate already and get 1 year of live how much does that convert to?

Thanks! Seems it's a better deal then. So curious why some people prefer to stay with Gold than migrate to GPU? Again, just for my education, nonjudgmental
It costs more. Comparatively, Live is $5 about month; Ultimate is $15 a month. There will probably be deals once they implement converting everyone over to Ultimate. The tech before was to max out your Live (3 years) and then do the $1 conversion for a 1:1 ratio rather than a 3:1. The $1 deal is still active and is 3 months instead of just 1 month when I did it in the past. However, I told to buy the 2 year from Costco, and somehow it gave them 3 years of Ultimate. I got a few of my friends to do it, they now have 3 years of Ultimate. They can worry about this price increase in 3 years.

Oh, I also forgot that Ultimate also includes the PC Game Pass on top of everything else I mentioned.

I would be weary about buying from grey market sites going forward. At any point in time Microsoft can cancel and make those codes void. Essentially killing the Xbox grey market

.... if you do ms rewards its all free anyways...
I'm wondering if there will be changes coming for MS rewards. There was a price hike for Gold in summer 2019, 1 month went from 6,800 to 8,500, 3 months went from 15k to 20k. If they are raising the retail cost of Gold now, especially by this much, I'd be surprised if they didn't raise the amount of Kool-Aid points needed on MS rewards.

FWIW, currently game pass ultimate is 12k points for 1 month, 35k points for 3 months. I don't know how many points a person can legitimately save up in a year, but I doubt it's 140k.

That's just a Sony fanboy. No matter what MSFT did here, they would have said the same thing. Even if it was better than what Sony offers. Ignore them.
I think you misinterpreted my comment, friend. I'm saying if you are using PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold as your determining factor for buying a PS5 or Xbox Series X, you're not looking at the equation right. Any owner of either console worth their salt is looking at these factors for each console:

PS5:
Controller
Spider-Man exclusives
PS Classic Collection

Xbox:
Halo exclusive (later this year)
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (including EA Play)

For what it's worth, I am a lifelong PlayStation owner and have never owned an Xbox... until now. I bought both this time around because of Game Pass. I play both consoles equally and enjoy both equally. They both bring something different to the table, and I love them both.

I'm too old and too cynical to be a fanboy and pick a "team" — whether it's on a console or on an ballot. I judge everything based solely on merit, and if you're basing your next gen console purchase on a monthly subscription service that only gives you a couple of free games a month and grants you online play, I think they're doing it wrong.

Finally another reason to upgrade to PS5 instead to Series X
don't you worry, PSN will follow suit, as they've done in the past. M$ paves the money-grab way and Sony is a fast follower Wink
