Microsoft has recently announced that the price of Xbox Live Gold is going up. The $60 1 year membership will now be $60 for a 6 month membership. If you are subscribed at the current rate they will honor a renew at your old price.

Retailers are now carrying the new $60 6 month cards. You can get ahead by stocking up on the old cards at their original price points being the price hike. This will make the gamepass trick more expensive too at the new price points, so now is the time.

I've provided a few good prices below. Take advantage while you can.

Costco: 2 years for $95.00

Target: 1 year for $59.99

Amazon: 1 year for $59.99

Can confirm that the EA access/play 12 month extends current Gamepass ultimate by 4 months.
I was set to expire 1/27/21. I purchased 2x 12 month EA access play cards from shopto. I'm now good till 9/27/21.

Comes to 5.85$/month.. which is definitely worth it for me playing their free games on PC. I pushed it by 8 months to sync up with friends.. but after that, I like many others will probably move away from microsoft.

Probably last chance to stock up before diving in. And to the posts above, who knows what the GPU conversion from XBL will look like in 3 years. Good luck betting on that, Lol...

Can someone advise on the best way to use up my existing codes?
I'm currently on the $1 for 3 month promotion with Xbox Live, Gamepass, EA

I have a 3 month Xbox Live Code, a 3 month Xbox Gamepass Code and a 3 month gamepass ultimate code.

Based on what we know, what is the best order of operations to get the most out of these? Thanks!

I can't use these until 2 years from now. Do they have an expiration date?

No, you want to use up your 3 years. Once it's done, you let it lapse first, then add another 3 years (with discounted cards if you buy now), then pay the $15 for one month of GPU, and it should convert 1:1 ratio again to 3 years of GPU.

I believe the bad ratio (1:3) is only if you add it to an active GPU account.
All of that is of course assuming they still have that wonderful game pass ultimate conversion in place, 3 darn years from now, right? Lol

I wouldn't be surprised if they turn around and say we are only raising it $10 or $20 and that's what they were going to do all along instead of saying we are raising it $10 or $20 from the get go

It does, I just stocked up like 10 minutes ago.

Specifically bought codes from here: https://www.shopto.net/en/dwnld37...6dfb990b7a

I am in the US and it worked for me (no VPN's or anything needed). Comes out to $5.85/month for current GPU subscribers.
Did you have to buy 1 at a time?

They aren't doubling Gold from what the official article says, looks like just Ultimate. Gold is going up a bit $1/mo or $5 for 3 months which is odd there not sure why more for buying more months it should go the opposite way. But still, not double yes?

Question as a current GPU member. Mine expires in July and I'm debating to buy 3 12-months live to do the 3 year conversion. Can I cancel my current GPU subscription and do the conversions? I keep seeing "wait until it expires" but haven't seen anything regarding actually canceling the subscription.

Yeah, 1 at a time and for some reason PayPal only lets me buy 2 of them in a 24 hour period before I get some error.

It's legit site though.

My current GPU expires in July 2021. Can I purchase 12 month gold code now and wait my GPU expire and then redeem my live gold code? Wondering if the code is still worth 12 month after the price increase.

As a longtime gamer I'm going to push back on this a bit. GPU is an awesome value for what it offers. But Even the most hardcore gamer has a hard time buying more than three or four games a year.

covid-19 caused me and a lot of other people to game now more than ever. But honestly I only play 2 games hardcore and rest are either backlogged or 10 min pallet cleaners to get me ready for a another GTAO marathon. I can literally play 1 game all year and get more value from them someone that bought 10 games. GPU doesn't help me, or any other hardcore gamer that plays one or two games a year but plays daily.

On one hand I could agree about adjusting a certain mindset if you want to get more value from GPU. But at the same time I really just sounds like you're carrying water for Microsoft after they just pulled a really bad PR move. And I've carried a lot of water for Microsoft over the past 20 years my friend....
Yeah, it isn't going to fit everyone, but I don't think I am holding water for them. Clearly they are trying to shift their business model and that is going to rub some people the wrong way. But they want you to treat them like you treat netflix, and I haven't worried about the 10-15 dollars I've paid netflix for the past 20 years regardless of how much I use it any given month. And to that point, xbox live has changed dramatically over the last 20 years, and is now a much higher quality product than PSN. And I expect the quality and value proposition of GPU to only get better in the near term (I mean it already has since I joined it over the summer), just like netflix has since the days I paid them to mail me 3 DVDs and I had the right to stream some movies on my computer web browser.
I also play a small number of games a lot in one year, but I like that I can try out new stuff, or throw on a party game if I have guests, or hit up a nostalgia classic with my siblings one weekend. I used to buy 5-10 games a year and not even play some of them. Now I don't. I am definitively paying less because of this service.

8 months if you currently have GPU. If you do not currently have GPU then redeem the code for 2 years of XBL first, then pay $1 (or $15 if you already did the $1 deal in the past) to convert that all to 2 years of GPU.

If you already have GPU then that was a bad buy.
