I bought these for about $350 about 6 months back and I don't regret they are great value for the money. These have been so heavily discounted because the subwoofer has a flaw. The wireless module on these subs is problematic. When I connected the sub with a cable to my receiver there would always be a very faint burping noise and when I place my fingers on the woofer cone I could feel the random ticks. Upon researching I found out that there could be WiFi/2.4GHz interference causing the problem. This would not let the sub auto shutoff which was not good for me. How ever when connected using the wireless module it was less noisy. I just decided to fix it by disconnecting the wireless module on board in the back of the sub rather than returning it because there's no way you are going to get this good of a 5.1 system for that price. Just unscrew the board and pop the wireless module out. it looks just like the laptop wifi modules. you could also just remove the antenna cable on the module I believe. I just hope many folks here would read this and avoid the frustration. Klipsch should have just removed this module and sold it without the wireless marketing crap. Any way that's good for us customers.

Yes, something needs to decode and convert the digital audio to analog and amplify them to drive the speakers. i.e. a receiver.

This is extremely incorrect. A center channel carries the vast majority of dialog in a movie, so it's actually the most important speaker when it comes to a home theater setup.

That being said, Klipsch is still a premier audio candidate despite the naysayers. It is one of Voxx's premier lines. I have had Cambridge Audio, HK, Klipsch and Bose for the past 30yr and will tell you this is a bang up deal. I currently run a 7.4.2 Atmos setup with the previous set to this (Quintet 5.0). Only difference is that it did not come with subs or the glorious looking gold cones (which I find ridiculous). Otherwise, they are identical, sound is identical. Added two SW-311 subs (if anyone knows about these, you know they rock (two passives, one active)). Worth every penny for this set at $299. As stated, had quintet 2, 5.0, Promedia 2 and 4. All sounded great. Buy at $299, you will not be disappointed!
Wow, that makes sense. I have AR studio monitors , Jami s606 and have read some things about Klipsch... I didn't like the sound from AR or jamo... It's not bad but rather bland or not bright. I heard Sonos Arc and it was crystal clear and clear. I'm interested in down sizing my jamo s606 because it takes up to much space in my new place. Not sure if this set is a better option or not

Do you sit between your speakers or off to the side? A center speaker is the last thing I'd spend money on if I sat in the "sweet spot". A center speaker is for those seated off to the sides.

3 in front . Left tower , center and right tower is what I currently have in front. and yes I sit in the sweet spot. I have the jamo s606. the towers sound good but most of the talking from tv comes through the center and my center, well maybe it's sucks

I would put that $300 into a subwoofer or a center channel speaker. Keep an eye out for sales on Klipsch Reference Premier speakers. Something like this is a great deal:

As far as subwoofers go, there is a large thread on avsforum about budget subwoofers in the $300 range. Your best bet is to upgrade each component over time, with your rear surrounds being the last item to upgrade.

I just want to add that this is a great deal! I purchased one @ $100 off and it has become my favorite place to watch movies because of this system. Granted it is in a smaller room but the sound is amazing. If you are on the fence and you have a smaller room you will not regret this purchase. I have had 0 issues with the wireless sub and it keeps up with the system well.

Funny thing is I actually have a nice sub from HSU was about $1000 vht15 I think. $279 isn't bad. I want something crisp and clear. Looking to hear what people are saying in clarity

I have this center channel and it's absolutely worth it. Especially if you have an HSU sub, I'd say you should absolutely upgrade your center channel speaker. Make a note of the dimensions though, it's quite big, but that's a good thing. There are reference premier center channels with only 2 woofer cones if you don't have the space. Maybe upgrade your L/R fronts down the line. What receiver do you have?

Yamaha. Can't remember the number currently but not a bad one. Everything is about 6 years old. The Yamaha has the mic with a auto tune feature. My new home I have my tv above the fireplace and there's a chair on one side and kiddie stuff on the other... Junk invading my speaker space! Smilie I was thinking of getting rid of the towers and going with a bar. Heard Sonos Arc at Costco and it sounded amazing of course. Price ,,, $800 has me saying nope.

Logitech Z-906. I moved the set up from my pc to my living room. Excellent sound an depth of bass. Hoping to move towards an Atmos based set up. waiting to learn more on layout of my living room, once we remodel.
