I've been using Yankee Candles for over 20 years. Way back then, I used to stop at their flagship store in Deerfield Ma. once a year on family vacation. That was before I learned about Slickdeals. Yes, they were very pricey. Shopping at the flagship, we usually got some good deals on clearance items, but it was still expensive.
I always keep an eye out for good candle scents at a good price. I have yet to find anything better than Yankee Candle. There is one exception. Glade Atmosphere candles. They were amazing, but the scents were limited. Of course Glade discontinued them.
Also, saying candles are 'super-easy" to make is a bit much. I'm sure lot's of people don't have the room, supplies or clean-up time available to make our own.
This person makes candles as a business. Looks easy right?
The scent of Yankee candles is waaayy better than the walmart candles. You may know about candle making, but you can't possibly think the walmart candles are made with the same quality and amount of scent as the Yankee candles. They aren't. It's not even close.

And LOL at your picture trying to demonstrate candle making. First off, that person's home is just disgusting. Secondly, watch this video.

If this is too difficult and requires 'too much' room or supplies, then IDK what to tell you.
All you need are:
Wax
Saucepan
Candle tins/jars
Candle wicks
Thermometer
Food scale
Candle fragrance (optional if you don't want any fragrance)
That's six items that could fit in a small box... I have no idea where you got that picture from but that house is disgusting and cluttered. Yeah, I'm sure the container labeled "Free Dirt" is totally for candle making... LOL.......
I guarantee you that if you actually tried doing it or heck, just watch the video, then you'll realize just how crazy the margins are.
