The primary reason I went for the Life Q30s over the Q20s was primarily the USB-C charging, where the Q20s charge via Micro-USB. But the Q30s also have the "Hybrid active noise cancellation with Indoor, Outdoor, Travel, and Transparency modes", which I saw some people saying having the different levels available, so they could more easily hear outside noises, was nice to have. These also have "2 microphones with uplink noise reduction", where the Q20s only have one microphone. And the Q30s have the app to customize frequencies. I don't use it much, but a cool feature. I do use the app for sleep mode sometimes though (has rain sounds, birds, waves, white noise, etc.).

The model comparison on Amazon was actually really helpful to visualize the differences among the models, and I have attached that here for easy comparing.
Rtings has a comparison tool to compare the Q20 vs Q30. You can also compare it against other headphones.

Thoughts on this vs the Q30? Are the USB-C charging and 2 microphones the primary upgrades?

I decided to get the q30s from Newegg desk. I have the q10s I got for my kids and I can say the headphone cushion feels like a pair of flat bicycle inner tubes. Besides that they actually have decent sound.

Yes however the ANC technology is unchanged. You can switch between different modes in the Q30 but performance should be the same. As a Q20 owner I was a little disappointed by this but the other improvements make it a overall better headphone.

At 40 dollars I would take the Q20 over the more expensive Q30 imo.

It depends on what you want to cancel out. They work very well for constant droning noises (airplane engine, air conditioner, etc), but not really so much for stuff like voices, tv, etc.

I'd say the custom EQ is worth the extra money. The Q30 goes on sale for $60ish so just wait for it.

Having never had a pair of noise cancelling headphones, these were great. Very noticeable.

The closed-ear cushions deaden the sound probably 65%. The noise-cancellation provides the remaining 35%. Very noticeable when you turn the active NR on and off.

I bought them almost a year ago for $40 So they haven't gone down in price.

I bought these for my 8 year old daughter before a plane trip back in August. She loves them, and hasn't managed to break them. They sound good, are as reliable as any other BT device I've used, and fit both her tiny skull and my giant pumpkin head.

I'm honestly debating between the Q30s and the Sony WH-1000XM3/4 (and maybe the Bose) headphones for myself since these were so good.

How does the audio modes work? Do they lower the volume or is there something more to it?

I like the sound quality on my q10's way better than the q30. I'm hoping it's a faulty unit. It's way too muddy and has an insane boost in the bass.

I have the Sony WH-1000XM3. I've had them for over two years. I use them at the gym all the time. I highly recommend them. I personally would skip the M4 Sony.
