Managed to find a couple of 300 pound weight sets back in stock at Dick's Sporting Goods for $299 with free in store pickup. As of this post, there are total of 9 available in the greater DC area. I got lucky and found one local to me. Of course this is a big YMMV as I don't know availability around the country.

Here is another one that is eligible for store pickup as long as the store has it in stock. I ordered this last week and did a curb side pickup. They bring it out and load it into your car.
Great deal at the moment, but keep in mind the same set goes for $150 on Black Friday.
Got mine in 2018, and the 45's are definitely a smaller diameter than standard, but not by a whole lot.
Note that there are only 3 openings/handles on each so if you plan on holding a plate for an exercise your arms will not be directly opposed / parallel hands.
Also, the whole set weighs 300 pounds *including the bar*, so only 255 pounds of plates.
The Fitness Gear set was $250 recently, but they are hard to find. I did manage to get a set a few months ago at $250. Not the greatest price ever, but not bad overall.
I'm 2 hours west of Chicago, and 2 hours east of Des Moines, checked availability of these on this years Black Friday and it was only discounted like $25 bucks, down to $265 if I recall right, but hasn't and isn't available since. Plugged in zip codes for Des Moines, Milwaukee, and Peoria to try and get a feel for where there in stock. Results: not within 100 miles of me or Des Moines, IS within 100 miles of Milwaukee and Peoria, but all the stores are actually in Chicago suburbs. We'll see if the stock gets pushed further out / closer to me, but I'm not holding my breath. $300 is a great price based on what I've seen on FB around here. If these were local I'd already be at the store.
I'm the first to admit when I'm wrong. Surprise, surprise!! Saw today / day after post above, they have at least one set at our local store. I was wrong.

Someone said the fitness gear sets were as low as $180 like 2-3 Black Fridays ago
They were at 230 for several months and then 250 and now they decide to raise the price again to 300 wow

Jesus christ, safe to say this isn't going to be an isolated item
Why do you say that? Since COVID started closing gyms there has been a run on exercise equipment. By now they should have about caught up to demand but that's not a given by any means.
Says limited stock at my local store.
