My case may be an anomaly but want to at least provide my negative feedback for Windscribe.

I bought the lifetime deal a couple years back and have not been able to use it for the past half year or so. Every time I try to connect, it gives me an error: "Oops. Something went wrong and we couldn't connect you. Please try another location." It doesn't matter which location I connect to around the country and world. And no matter how many times I message customer service, I have yet to get any response. I've tried it on both mobile and desktop; I tried logging out and back in. Nothing. It's almost like they shut me down after about 2 years into lifetime service.

Just my 2 cents.
Check your modem. It may blocks VPN services. My relative chose High Security in Firewall mode and basically her internet is only usable for web browsing.

My 3 year is up in April, hard to believe. Great company. Also, entertaining marketing (anyone see their Christmas Carol spoof?). Can't believe I got the 3 year for 12 bucks. Honestly didn't think I'd use it as often as I do. Ahh well, guess I better bite the bullet before things get worse.

*EDIT*

Payment went through with two confirmations, and Stacksocial is only showing my 2018 purchase on my account. Hopefully it's just a delay, and not a migraine in the making.

I've tried everything that was suggested reading online.
More than not working is the complete lack of customer service response. Never once have I ever gotten any reply from messaging them numerous times over the months.

I extended mine to dec 2027 lol
I got mine a few years back when Stack Social was offering a Mac bundle for less than $50. Most other software apps were just filler and weren't worth a lick. Other apps were actually useful for easily transferring data to my i Devices. I bought another bundle for my buddy for his Mac with his money. He didn't know what a VPN was so I told him I could keep it and he quickly agreed. 3 yrs + 3 yrs + 1 year (from another ultra cheap bundle under $10) = 7 years!! All less than a total of $60. Winscribe is AMAZING with blazing speeds compared to PIA. If you are thinking of VPN's, avoid PIA like the plague. They were bought out by another company and use ad tracking and keep logs to sell info. After PIA was bought out behind the scenes, I was inundated with ads, robo-calls, junk mail and credit card offers. I have always opted out for years of all the crap ads and junk mail/calls. I am VERY protective of my privacy and if a VPN company sells my info to make even more money, I GTFO! Windscribe explicitly fights for the lil guys and have documented their interactions with the big, bad bullies who demand kickbacks for positive reviews.

WINDSCRIBE!!!! #YOLO

I torrent as if my life depended on it. Never any issues. Check with your ISP or try using different servers. Perhaps your router needs to be reconfigured. I had that issue last year and I lost many hours trying to trouble shoot. Turns out it was my router's updated firmware.

edit: I have been using the BETA Mac app for a while now. I don't use any browser extensions nor do I run WindScribe from my router. I like having control if I need to use my ACTUAL IP address. I love their firewall switch feature in order to prevent leaks...with all the torrential downpours coming through my computer, it's nice to have a failsafe to avoid the big bad fish lurking in the waters. Don't listen to me though, I am very dumb and ignorant. Spectrum knows I have paper hands...

Is there a noteworthy difference between Windscribe and those generally ranked higher, ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Surfshark? I can't determine whether the rankings have merit behind them or if they're just bs and not a true reflection of each product's value.

Got this couple years ago with Lifetime sub for about 35 bucks. It is really good. The apps are very user friendly and intuitive on all Windows, Android, FireTV Even for 3 yrs, $54 is really good deal given its service and performance!
