Picked one of the Li-Ion string trimmer (aka weed eater/weed whacker) models up at $10 in store clearance at 52302...had first seen it on clearance at $80 last week and guess they wanted them gone. Uses two 20 volt lithium batteries (included). MSRP was $114 and seems to be on clearance with at $75 or in other nearby stores...probably will drop further in the coming days where they remain in stock.

The 16" 2-stroke gas model had also dropped to $25 in-store clearance at the same store. Reg price was $74.

I bought the curved shaft model for around $15 late last year. One common problem is starting it. Right out of the box, it started okay once. The second time, I couldn't get it started and I tried till I skinned myself with some metal thing on the pull cord that I didn't notice. I also used overpriced pre-mixed fuel which some said helped.

The trimmer itself is pretty weak and you can stall out the engine on almost anything, but at at least it can trim grass with sufficient patience. I have beefier trimmers, but I smashed one too many windows with those.

If you only need it for light work (ie edging grass) and a limited space it's probably fine. The electric trimmer I got won't go through anything more than normal lawn grasses and dandelions. Even then it doesn't make it far. That's a Poulon Pro though, I'm happy to hear about brands that work better as I really want to go all electric.
Me ego will rip your leg off.

Get a 4 stroke fuel injected, but not gonna be cheap.
4 stroke is heavier, more expensive, less powerful, requires oil changes. Terrible advice, definitely go electric.

I went with Ego 4 years ago and couldn't be happier. They've switched from Home Depot to Lowe's but you can still find some on clearance at some Home Depot stores.

I'm also joining in on the Ego love posts. I have the carbon fiber one, and even going through thick brush it didn't even start to slow down.

The battery one seems to have bad reviews. Wonder if it's the trimmer or the wm users?

EGO = American
EGO = Forefront of battery operated lawn equipment
EGO = Excellent customer service
EGO = Industry leading warranty

I know its comparing an old Chinese car from a brand nobody has heard of to a high end Tesla, but you get what you pay for and you can help dictate world politics with what you buy.

That's my favorite thing, people who say "America is loosing jobs to the Chinese, we're finished!" while at the same time doing the VERY things to make sure that happens and make sure it happens fast. It's not until it hurts IRL that people really wake up and by then its far too late.

Again, I know its $10 lol.. I've never even seen a trimmer this cheap before, this comment is more of a general census on buying from brands that actually are at least US owned.

I've had the electric model for two mowing seasons now. Still works! One upgrade I did was put grooved string on once the included stuff ran out. For home use, it's more than powerful enough. Also lasts about 40 minutes on a charge.

I invested in the Ego ecosystem. The most impressive item is the carbon fiber trimmer with the power head. It has more power than you will ever need. The power head makes it extremely easy to load the line and I use the 5.0 battery which is more than enough runtime to finish my .5 acre lot. I highly recommend the EGO brand if you are looking to go electric.
