If anyone does get that code and don't intend on using it I would be very appreciative if you'd share it with me. Been looking for a deal on lifetime Plex Pass for a while now. Thanks!
So I recently got a HDHR ATSC 3.0 tuner to replace my Tivo, and trialed Channels, Plex, and the HDHR app for 1 month (I have a Shield). I cancelled my Plex sub on 1/26. Unfortunately, I don't have the lifetime email, or I'd consider it. For me, I think Channels is better though, still debating.
I've been on the Plex Pass fence for a while: we use Plex a ton, but the free version has generally been adequate for us. There are a couple of things that would have been "nice" but not really essential. I got one of the e-mail offers around Christmas and decided against it because they have removed the Plex Home Theater for HTPCs.
I'm glad I did, though, as Plex just released a Video Games feature that is free to try but ultimately requires a separate subscription. I worry that this is the direction in which they are moving, and that although you may well get what you are paying for now, the goal is to keep adding new things with extra subscriptions rather than doing what they've always done, which--for me, at least--is to allow you to stream your own media on your own devices.
I received the same offer last year, after being on the fence for years. Besides having a general sense of paying the developers for their efforts, I really like the playlist sync function. Want your plex playlist content portable on your mobile device? Just sync it and Plex takes care of the rest.

I've been using Jellyfin. Works well enough, and transcoding isn't behind a paywall.
If it's for your own use, sure. I've already gotten family and friends on the Plex platform and moving them all is a bigger pain than its worth.
I've had a free Plex server for years and received $75 worth of functionality several times over. No brainer for me to support them and unlock a few extra features - hardware transcoding being the important one in my case.

Try JellyFin, its just as good as plex and 100% free.
