Can't recommend this purchase enough. Price is up from a few years back when I bought it, which is to be expected. If you are going to buy this, do yourself a favor and open a Costco credit card if you don't have one. You will get 2 extra years of warranty. 4 years of warranty, no extra cost, and it's through Costco.

I agree 100%.

We had a similar, but much worse experience with two of our whirlpool gold French Door refrigerators. I say refrigerators because we're on our 3rd one in less than 2 years. The first one was a disaster, the door ice maker auger motor went bad, then the evaporator fan motor iced over twice, and the water inlet valve stopped working. Whirlpool replaced the first one under a lemon law type of situation.

We only had the second refrigerator about 1 week before it started getting getting warm (48 degrees). My wife just about lost it, she'd spent hours and hours of time, holding for customer service over the previous year, and we'd lost 100's of dollars of food due to unsafe high temps in the fridge. Whirlpool customer service is pretty good, they immediately set up an appointment to exchange the 2nd fridge for a new one, with no questions asked.

We've had the current fridge for about a year now with no problems (knock on wood). As I said whirlpool customer service is very good, but I wish we never had to find that out.

Multiple different repairmen also reiterated the fact that we were lucky we didn't buy a Samsung or LG fridge (kind of ironic, as they were there to fix our "good" broken whirlpool), they said most of their service calls were for LG and Samsung refrigerators.

I expected much better quality from an $3,000 American made refrigerator from a well known manufacturer.

It really feels like there are no good brands anymore for most appliances, fridges included. Any research winds up showing mostly negative reviews, and sure, that's probably partly self selecting bias, but it's depressing. Are there any good ones out there?

Just my two cents...
That might not be all true. My Whirlpool broke after one month of used and I already requested warranty fixed twice for last 1 year. I talked to one of the local repair guys after he fixed my an older model whirlpool side-by-side . He told me that LG, Samsung and other brands are the worst but Whirlpool French Door Refrigerator is slightly better...
My Samsung broke down and the technician told me Samsung and LG make up 90% of his business. He recommended electrolux, GE and Whirlpool. Keep away from the Korean brands.

I am hoping Costco can carry Bosch fridges.

Good deal. Personally, I don't like the small drawer as many reviews state that it is not very useful.

My in-laws had a Samsung 2300$ fridge not sure exact model.. was super fancy.
lasted 9months then string of issues.. could barely get anyone to even come out to repair it under warranty. dumped it at 2.5years or so.

Next they got .. wait for it.. LG. again around $2000
It lasted 6months. had 3 warranty repairs including compressor replacement
IIRC it lasted about 3 years and had 4-5 repair visits.

They now have a french door bottom freezer frigidair.
besides the janky ice machine breaking 4x its been pretty good.
i fixed the ice machine it was partially frozen up, a couple months later it decided to never shut off filling the entire freezer with icecubes.
I again thawed it all out.. but it died. They replaced it under warranty.. and its been going strong.. the water filters are a terrible 30$ each though. even generics are over 25$ and dont last long.

My take AVOID ALL KOREAN MODELS.
and check reviews on specific model you are looking at. Even the more reliable brand names seem to have some dud models.

Is there any way that you can delay your delivery date? I don't have a move-in date yet and don't want it to deliver early.

Pick a delivery date that is further out. Then when the delivery company calls you tell them you need a date further out.

I've been told the same about LG and Samsung....by one of the only authorized repairmen in my state. He eats good.....(and told me to stick to whirlpool, Maytag, and kitchenaid as their parts are frequently used throughout life cycles)

Maytag has some the least reliable appliances so I would skip those. My last nice Whirlpool refrigerator lasted about 7 years before having all sorts of issues from the refrigerator freezing food to water leaks inside requiring me to cut off the ice maker and turn off the water supply.

Thanks. Got one. Signed up for the Costco credit card too, but only got a 1200 limit and looks like I had to go to the store to print a temporary card. Oh well, whirlpool fridges are some of the most reliable, so I will make due with a 2 year warranty.
same here. dont know what they based on. i got 816 score but they only gave me $1200. not enough for my washer dryer the last time
so endup buying the set elsewhere.

Yes, that's the general consensus that LG and Samsung suck. Samething the last repairman told me. I got this about a month ago, at full price. It's a decent fridge. Hoping to get a price adjustment.

I was also told to get units with the ice maker inside instead of on door, as those seem problematic. Don't know about longevity, but hoping it lasts as long as my Frigidaire.
We bought this fridge in November. It went on sale in December and Costco gave us a price adjustment.

I agree.

I'm not sure if there are any sure bets with refrigerators anymore. I know our Amana side by side fridge was still working great after 18yrs when we moved. I had to replace two ice makers on it, the evaporator fan once and the compressor start relay. About $200 in parts over an 18yr period. And the very first problem (the icemaker tray) didn't happen until about 8yrs into ownership. I would've bought another Amana, but my wife loved the look of the Whirlpool and I was happy it was built in the U.S.

I just don't think these company's are building appliances to last anymore. I guess it's just a case of designed obsolescence being more profitable than customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.

Will Costco honor extended warranty if you pay partially on Costco CC?

I bought this fridge last year from Costco for a bit less than this sale, we like the fridge but it has issues with freezing sometimes. Not sure what is causing it, we have lowered the temp a degree or two past the recommended 38 but stuff still gets frozen sometimes.

That's usually from pushing food too far back on the shelves. There should be a gap inside between the back wall of the fridge and the shelves. This is for airflow. If you put too much food in a fridge and push it so far back that it blocks this airflow then the fridge will freeze up the next time the freezer goes through a defrost mode. Whirlpool also makes Kitchen aide. I've noticed that Kitchen aide fridges usually have a large plastic draft tube that prevents this from happening. Same fridges usually just a couple of nice added features.

lolz.
i am looking for a new refrigerator to replace my old refrigerator, stumbled upon this deal and find out this is the SAME thing that i am trying to get rid off (all the button and layout are exactly the same). i believe i got my copy 8 years ago for less.

anyways. don't get it. they leak. as in actually leaks water from the freezer. this is due to a design flaw where the drain hole rubber gasket get hard around 5th years and seals shut. the water that is supposed to go to the evaporator tray end up in your freezer and leak out from it.. google it before you buy . i have ceramic tile in my kitchen so i don't care, but if you have wood, don't even bother with it.

edit. found the link of the product that i bought 8 years ago. cannot believe Whirlpool selling the same thing after 8 years.

I feel like this is worth spending $60 for a membership even though I don't have Costco near me. I can still order online right? This fridge is $2500 everywhere else
You can always cancel your membership later and they'll prorate it. The best time to get a Costco membership is when they do promos to make the membership free (or close to it) the first year. However, to lock in the extra 2 years of warranty coverage, you may want to get the Costco card and become a Costco family Smilie.

Side note, I'm surprised about all the LG slander on this thread. We've been extremely impressed with our LG tech and appliances. Fridge, freezer, washer, dryer, TVs, etc are all LG. Zero issues with all of them and we've had them for years. I imagine Whirlpool is on par with LG.
