We had a similar, but much worse experience with two of our whirlpool gold French Door refrigerators. I say refrigerators because we're on our 3rd one in less than 2 years. The first one was a disaster, the door ice maker auger motor went bad, then the evaporator fan motor iced over twice, and the water inlet valve stopped working. Whirlpool replaced the first one under a lemon law type of situation.
We only had the second refrigerator about 1 week before it started getting getting warm (48 degrees). My wife just about lost it, she'd spent hours and hours of time, holding for customer service over the previous year, and we'd lost 100's of dollars of food due to unsafe high temps in the fridge. Whirlpool customer service is pretty good, they immediately set up an appointment to exchange the 2nd fridge for a new one, with no questions asked.
We've had the current fridge for about a year now with no problems (knock on wood). As I said whirlpool customer service is very good, but I wish we never had to find that out.
Multiple different repairmen also reiterated the fact that we were lucky we didn't buy a Samsung or LG fridge (kind of ironic, as they were there to fix our "good" broken whirlpool), they said most of their service calls were for LG and Samsung refrigerators.
I expected much better quality from an $3,000 American made refrigerator from a well known manufacturer.

Side note, I'm surprised about all the LG slander on this thread. We've been extremely impressed with our LG tech and appliances. Fridge, freezer, washer, dryer, TVs, etc are all LG. Zero issues with all of them and we've had them for years. I imagine Whirlpool is on par with LG.

My buddy recently got a Samsung refrigerator and it's almost completely quiet. So comparing the two on sound the Samsung definitely won.
Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank TheLungMD
But last month, the fridge was even quieter than your buddy's. Like DEAD quiet. The inverter board powering the compressor fried. I was lucky to even find the part in the U.S. Samsung's own authorized parts distributor for the U.S. showed it on backorder for months. Luckily for me 1) a regional parts distributor had ONE left 2) others have had this problem and shared how to diagnose and fix it on the internet.
To the person complaining about nothing having changed in this Whirlpool refrigerator in the past 8 years: that's probably a good thing. The design is apparently working well for the marketplace, and parts will be more likely available. It's not like there has been a revolution in refrigerator cooling technology in the past few decades. Some efficiency improvements (like inverter compressors) have actually come at the cost of reliability and, well, cost.

One last thing is in some areas Costco appliance delivery is a real shitstorm right now. If you head over the Costco reddit you'll see horror stories. Just be aware there might be delays and really poor installation.
The ice maker makes a loud sound which can be concerning to some homes, fortunately I don't use the ice maker often. Moving around shelves is easy, space feels fine, there's a lot of small convenient features that surprised me.
I mostly hear to avoid Samsung/LG first, and even so all other brands have their own downsides and unreliability, especially for french doors.
I can't give a confident yes or no to this fridge specifically since it's only been 3 months, I'm just listing my experience so far.

The board you mention is a module made up of AC to DC components which are all super common and used in everything from radios to server power supplies.
They're so frequently used that producing and implementing a bad batch that goes undetected for a decade is less likely than winning the lottery.
It's never brought up, but clean power with a proper ground on a circuit without much load is more important than ever with these newer units.
I'd be willing to bet your house fried the module, rather than it failed on its own.
