Normally for freezers, fridges and things that have refrigerant can be layed down on their side, but require 24-48 hours for the refrigerant to settle before you can plug them in.

Look up the freezer dimensions, add buffer for packaging, measure your trunk space.

Why even ask a question like this? No one knows which SUV you have, how much clutter you have in it, and which of the 3 freezer sizes you want.

Do not go by this standard with modern refrigerant appliances.

This used to be the standard when everything was running on freon, but different manufacturers are using whichever refrigerant is readily available and each responds differently.

Just so you don't have any early compressor failures, I would definitely recommend letting it sit for a full 72 hours and then turning it on to the lowest setting for 24 hours.

If it's cycling properly, the compressor won't be overly warm and the interior will be cooler than ambient temperature, at which point you can turn it to the desired setting.

These freezers get tilted all the time and are trucked over multiple altitudes. All it takes is one air pocket to kill them.
I have the same model. Box says 2hrs upright if its been laid on its side.

Can I pick it up in my SUV laying flat on the back?

Usually if you put a refrigerator on its side. You have to put it right side up and wait at least 24 hours for the coolant to settle back into its normal position. I don't know if this is the case for this freezer.

We have the smaller one for 2+ years in our laundry room and it is terrific. Looks small but holds quite a lot of food and it runs almost silently.

How do you insulate a garage door ?
Insulation panels are put in the various panels of the door. When we had our house built, we specifically requested an insulated door. In TX, the garage rarely seems to be outside of the 50-90° range

Looks like they added ice scrapper and a light. Good buy. I have 2 of them in garage in Sacrramento heat. Working with no issues.

thinking of putting some old Insulation into the existing door. Wonder if this would work well in AZ. Have window top though Frown

For anyone looking at the 7cuft and has Costco membership, Costco has a Danby 7.2cuft for $60 more, but includes 5-year parts and labor warranty. BB's is only 1-year warranty.

would you mind if I ask, what kind of insulated door you use to keep the temperature below 55f in south texas?

I would think - Garages will easily reach 80F most summer days especially in Texas.
Minimum ambient temperature means you must have the temperature to at least 55° f. That's the minimum temperature of the ambient (room where you put it) That means it can't be go below 55° f do you understand? It's hard for the compressor to move heat or impossible for certain designs when the ambient temperature is too low. You need bigger heat exchangers ie condensers and evaporators. this design means you shouldn't put it in a place that goes below 55° f. And that's what the language suggests.

Personally I think these are super over priced probably because of the pandemic
You may be right but I think it also depends on seasonal sales. I have an upright 19.7 currently selling for 809.99 but I paid about 550 in 2019.

Voice typing! And this may well work okay under 55° f, however the compressor will run for longer periods of time, be less efficient, and may not maintain the freezer temperature properly. however once the ambient gets below the freezer temperature it will be fine :-) because it won't need to run

Good Price, bought one on 12/15 for $169, needed it badly to stock up on things so I can reduce the amount of trips I was making to the stores. Also had those BBY promo cards with the AAPL gift card offer. Was struggling about the term "garage ready."

Insignia Chest Freezer First Look & Initial Review - YouTube [youtube.com]

Insignia Chest Freezer 2 Year Review - YouTube [youtube.com]

After watching the video, I now have this in my garage. Best decision yet because it forced me to get rid of a lot of junk in the garage to make room. Go for the 5.0 CU feet one.

It comes with a basket and you also buy a freezer thermometer for $6 at Amazon so you can find the setting that puts the temp at zero degrees. It's not quite the max on the dial.

I also put the frig on the side in my Honda Odyssey and let the item sit upright for 3 days before plugging it in.

I picked up the 5.0 and works great so far. The manual says to stand upright for 2 hours before connecting to power and there is no recommendation of ambient temperature.
