Really? I have a v11 and it looks like I'd at least need to pull screws
I just doubled checked and ours is fully detachable, just push the red tab and it comes off. When we bought ours a few months ago I read the attached battery was something Dyson was phasing out on the V11. This would lead me to believe it's a pretty safe bet you would be getting a detachable battery unit from Costco nowadays (and most other places).

The next time could be spring or summer. I would hold off on it if you don't need it right away. But then again you have the 90 day return policy.

You're right. Based on this, the pictures of the vacuum on Costco's website doesn't have the red tab = Screw in battery.
