I am new to the Makita ecosystem, so additional batteries are welcomed for now.

After taxes, this deal equates to getting the battery for $30 compared to buying the grinder from Amazon for regular price of $139. Regular battery price is $118 on amazon for one, $150 for two.

This deal is the XAG04, the XAG09 is identical except XAG09 adds an electric brake. Neither of my corded grinders have a brake so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this, $147 with tax and free shipping. Not super slick, but I was really considering paying full price of $126 with tax on amazon so the $20 battery sealed the deal for me. Thanks OP!
These things eat the hell out of a battery. Every time I've used mine I'm constantly swapping.
Agree, battery life is not like on drills or even saws. I've got this model and have probably done 2-300 hrs of cutting on it. If you bear down on your cuts, it eats battery faster than if you let the wheel do the work. It's not quite as powerful as corded, but incredibly convenient and gets it done. (Use corded if grinding continuously.)
That said, I've never outpaced the rapid charger in a normal work flow and can't imagine how much juice this would take if it were brushed.
Oh, I also favor the Makita ultra-thin cut off wheels that are sold in bulk packs. They really are faster and improve battery life significantly. (Although thinner can be it's own hazard, and these very thin wheels are not allowed on some job sites. Just remember PPE always and watch that your kerf won't bind as you get through the cut!)

This is kind of tempting, especially since I haven't used my Amex Home Depot offer yet. I have the classic corded Makita grinder that damn near every shop and jobsite in the world has and it is a beast, but I also find myself not wanting to use it because most of the time I need it I am not really in a situation I can easily get to a plug.
I can't tell if I would love this for its convenience, or be bummed it probably doesn't have the power to hang with the corded version. I have batteries to spare since I'm fully invested in the Makita line and I typically don't need to be grinding away for hours anyway so battery life isn't a big deal to me so if this has the power to grind down stuck and cut off the occasional steel pipe, I might jump on it and see what happens.
Just got an email that my order is now backordered. Amazon is listed as an authorized seller, but don't appear to show the free battery promotion, anyone able to get it to work on Amazon?
FYI, Makita just release new x-lock angle grinders, which is why many of the old ones are going on sale. If you really need a grinder, I suggest the new ones. They're the same price as the non sale price of these older models.

Tool itself is $189 on Amazon, so free 5ah battery.
The electric brake works as a safety mechanism, I have small kids, so I spring for the higher one.
