Why is the Eufy much better? I believe Arlo 2 still offers free cloud storage?
As a user using Arlo 2 for 2 years, here are the pros I have found.
1. Mount, eufy mount is more stable, Arlo 2 always moved by animal and I need to adjust every 1 or 2 months
2. Battery, for some reason Arlo 2 after some time, battery only last for like 2 weeks, even w/ new battery
3. Base station, eufy base station supports wifi, that's one less cable than arlo
4. RTSP, eufy supports RTSP, so that I can save all the clips into my synology NAS
5. Solar panel, eufy panel cost only 49.99 MSRP, Arlo panel is like 79.99. Moreover there is no sealing has been done inside the panel, it breaks every 6-12 months because rain water gets inside the panel
6. Recording, eufy has human only AI motion detection, arlo will record everything. Like wind move the tree, cost lots of storage on unneeded clip
I think more are coming, above just what I can remember.

Pro 2 issues:
- web portal times out after a few minutes and you have to repeatedly login to monitor live feed because there is no option to remain logged in
- many interruptions in web live feed, with need to click play button every few minutes to maintain (and another click to expand window again if you were viewing full screen)
- eventual inability to connect to camera at all without restarting hub
- nearly non-existent motion detection through windows, unless you pay for subscription service; even then it's very unreliable, missing many/most events.
- frequent inability to play more than a few seconds of a recorded clip (Chrome/Windows)
- inability to manually record to memory card
- ~8 second delay between initiating recording/photo and the actual recording start/capture
- mounting limitations because the mounting socket is right next to the power jack
I have the add on solar panels for my arlo system, they'll never have to be taken down and charged the traditional way again. I have 5 cameras on my cabin property that have been going strong for 14 months now
Netgear has crippled some features on the Arlo Pro 2 to encourage subscription based cloud storage. Specifically, many users have reported a full or partly green screen during live viewing. This also occurs if using the Alexa skill for Arlo. This is not based on the user's local WiFi network, but rather the connection between the Arlo Pro base and cameras. The problem appeared after a firmware update approximately September 2020. Netgear originally said they would look into it, but nothing had been announced afterward, except encouraging users to subscribe to cloud storage instead. It is unclear if Netgear is working on any fix.
EDIT: This effects users with the original base station that allowed local storage via the USB port. Netgear removed that option when they redesigned the base station in the current model. Netgear intentionally eliminated a feature that made it a great subscription-free system, then decided to cripple some functionality for users with the original base, in order to upsell the cloud service after years without problems.

So this occurs with the free cloud storage but not the paid cloud storage?

A great deal for an add-on camera indeed. I have the original larger (wider) hub. Is there any reason to replace the original with this hub, and sell the original?

You missed the point. It should not have anything to do with cloud subscription. Netgear is just telling users to "upgrade" to subscription to avoid the issue. The firmware update did not solve the problem with Arlo Pro 2 cameras using the base station with LOCAL storage option, although some users found some improvement, like half a green screen or occasional green screen. Netgear has not commented at all or answered any questions after the firmware update, except to repeat that users can upgrade to cloud subscription. That IS Netgear's absurd solution, to a system that was working perfectly fine for several years using local storage and the USB port.
Note the base station with current model above does NOT have a USB port for local storage. Early users specifically bought the Arlo system with original base station for local storage. Netgear then changed the design of the base station and removed the local storage feature when they first introduced their subscription model. If you only have the doorbell, you never had local storage and don't have the issue with Arlo Pro 2 cameras or the base with USB port. So why would you tell everyone the problem has been fixed? This can all be verified by visiting the Arlo community forum.

Sorry, this occurs with the earlier base stations that allowed local storage via a USB port. Netgear redesigned the base station and removed the USB port and local storage option. So this problem will not effect the current model and free weekly cloud storage. But I don't believe you get zones or the look back feature with the current base and free weekly storage. My main point of posting is that Netgear crippled a system that originally needed no cloud storage. The current strategy is they want users to choose their subscription-based model.

Thanks for the clarification. I have the base with storage but as far as I'm concerned that option was already crippled as buried in the fine print Arlo documented that local storage did not function for manual recordings, only triggered, and the motion detection did not work in any way reliably - at least for my use case (through a window).

I bought this the same deal last time. The base station does not have local storage. You'd need to buy another base station for that. NewEgg charges $12 for return shipping label and $22 restocking fee. It is PIR motion detection so it does not work behind a window and it detects motion based on the change in temperature like body heat so it works well when it is placed outside. It can record raccoons at cats but motion will not trigger for moving plants or trees so that is a plus.
I don't like the fact that it can slow down your internet when it is sending videos to the cloud and the base taking up an ethernet port and perhaps anyone can just steal the camera if they wanted to. I took a loss and I sold mine for $80.
