Can anyone that has used both attest to the difference between the 3rd and 4th Gen aside from size and the in-built WiFi? I read that having the hub/connect unit without line of sight to the lock is an issue. Trying to decide whether the 4th Gen is worth $120 more!

Cant speak to the fourth gen but I have the 3rd and love it! WiFi connect bridge is near the door and it Auto Unlock's 99.9% of the time with no connectivity issues.

I know the fourth gen uses some weird size batteries and is smaller. Honestly isn't worth the difference in price. I'm still on the original batteries it came with six months in.

I have the 3rd gen + connect and it's been basically magical compared to the Kevo we were using before. it's unlocked 99% of the time, and the 1% of the time it doesn't, the keypad accessory has been a lifesaver.

Those are the 2 main differentiators, the 4th gen also has a different grip.

Do use the Amex offer to bring it down by 50$ or 30$ - YMMV

Spend $50 or more, get $50 back, up to 2X (total of $100). Online only.

I have had both 3rd and 4th gen. The size difference is quite significant. I haven't had issues with either so far. I usually lock and unlock from my apple watch and it works from anywhere in the house or the garage so far. Remotely works fine too albeit with a few second delay. Since you don't need the connect for 4th gen, the price difference isn't as much.

My experience with 3 rd gen was terrible. It was very unreliable that I had to start carrying the physical key. 1 out of 10 times, it failed to unlock with the august app which means I was locked out as I don't a keypad accessory. Regarding auto unlock, It auto unlocked 50% of the time. The connect and the lock was 8 ft apart.

4th gen uses CR123/A lithium batteries. 3rd gen uses AA batteries. My 3rd gen with the connect module is pretty good and reliable. My friend's 4th gen seems to have more issues.

I need an outdoor version of this for fence gate -- anybody know of a product that's rated for outdoor use that can throw and retract a gate latch?

It will connect to Ring, but it is not compatible! Doesn't work for Arm/Disarm via the Lock. In top of that using Zwave kills the battery pretty quick.
