it looks like a very good deal to upgrade an old pc.

maybe dell will put on sale i5 10400 for $50 more (or maybe i5-10600K).

i am thinking to buy it, but i want to make sure i can add a power supply and the 1080 from my old i7 4790. Maybe getting a new case and move all the parts. also i want to upgrade to 64gb ram.

From all the benchmarks articles, i3 10100 is 2-10% faster than i7 4790, so it's not upgrading speed, just the components are newer. Also the native support for NVMe is a big plus.

Doesn't really pertain to the deal but it seems crazy to me that a 6yo i7 4790k gets smoked by an i3.. especially given the lack of advancement we had seen for soo many years.

Just buy a cheap $20-30 atx case and drop all the components in it with a larger psu and a solid gpu and you'll have a rock solid 1080p system.

can we add any types of graphic cards to this one?
750ti, 1050ti, 1650 all get the power from the PCI-e socket (75W). Just because the power supply is rated at "200W" doesn't mean its gonna melt once you get close to it. It's probably capable of handling momentary ~300W loads with no issues. Dell knows how to design power supplies.

That's what i have in mind, but unfortunately, the MB - Intel CML PCH-V B460 has only 2 ram slots.

Memory configurations supported
4 GB, 1 x 4 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz
8 GB, 1 x 8 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz
8 GB, 2 x 4 GB, dual-channel DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz
16 GB, 1 x 16 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz
16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, dual-channel DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz
32 GB, 1 x 32 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz
32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, dual-channel DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz
64 GB, 2 x 32 GB, dual-channel DDR4, 2666 MHz to 2933 MHz

still thinking...

The Inspiron 3671 has two slots for RAMs. See the attached pic.

Quote from dealstorm :
Is the RAM expansion capability anywhere in the specs?

I see the XPS model lists "Four DIMM slots (supports up to 128GB)" under "Slots" but this one only shows:
"Internal:
1 PCIe x16
1 PCIe x1
1 M.2 2230 slot for WiFi and Bluetooth combo card
1 M.2 2230/2280 slot for PCIe solid-state drive
2 SATA slots for 3.5-inch HDD, 2.5-inch HDD/SSD
1 SATA slot for slim Optical Disk Drive (ODD)"

Why don't you think it supports dual monitors., as long as one is vga and the other hdmi you are good to go.

unfortunately the ones that do not require external power are quite old and not powerful at all.
I really wouldn't recommend this system if you plan on getting a gfx card in the future.

It is basically impossible to replace this power supply. It can be done, but at excessive cost, so much that it would be cheaper to sell the system and rebuild.

This is what I have so far.
Just note the F version doesnt have integrated graphics so you'd need to buy a separate gpu. (Dont know if that was the intent but I'd assume most people arent using this for gaming).

Its actually hard to beat the price of this dell.

Thanks, yeah I was going to go for the regular version, but couldn't resist the $70 price for the F chip.

I will have to get a cheap gfx card in the meantime. My friend said he has some spares (like 10yrs old at this point).

How did you get the CPU for $70?

If this system uses any proprietary parts, you won't be able to just grab a different psu and be able to plug it into the motherboard. They don't make it that easy anymore (used to back in sandy bridge days).
