I own one of these and the quality and style is definitely top notch. That's a really good deal considering that I have never seen this jacket on sale and this is even their latest style. Good find!
Wonder how it stacks up against Expensive Goose (Canada Goose). But on sale it's a good price...
They serve different purposes. If you just want something for wearing around town in very cold weather, Canada Goose would be a better choice.
The Arcteryx jacket has better weatherproofing and synthetic insulation performs way better when wet (i.e. with your sweat in it). But if you get it thinking a $550 jacket should keep you as warm as a Canada Goose while just standing around you might be disappointed.
Eh, I live in a cold hell state with bad winters with a dog that loves to go out all the time and I just don't see why some of these coats cost this much? I have a Gerry that's so good I could probably lie outside in the dead of winter and take a nap and be comfortable. LOL
What you really need to invest in for winter weather is insulated/fleece lined pants, that's the game changer.
They have quite a few Arcteryx items on sale at good prices ... sale price of the Atom jacket is about the same as the price for last season's colors on the Arcteryx outlet. I expect this stuff to sell out pretty soon.

Don't know about this specific jacket, but I would guess Canada, based on this information from Wikipedia: "
Arc'teryx officially states that about a third of their products are made in Canada in Burnaby, a third are made in China and third are made in a combination of Indonesia, Bangladesh and elsewhere. Most of the jackets are either Canada or China."
I'm guessing the cheaper of their jackets are made in China, and the more expensive ones are made in Canada, but I am basing that guess on nothing but my often incorrect intuition.
Your 10 year old needs a $550 coat to walk to a friend's house?
It's almost three blocks. He's wants to be a professional X-box player, and I don't want him to get frostbite and end his career before it starts. I consider this an investment in his future.
