This is considered to be one of the best Arcteryx jackets for those who are fans of the dead birds.
It's comfortable in 40degree weather with activity. Toasty at 50. Known to shed heat well. It is the replacement to the venerated Atom LT because of this function: the duality of warmth but shedding warmth with activity. Much better per reviews in outdoor gear labs and etc
At time of deal posting 10 mediums in stock in black
>Now Proteus XL, XXL, Black L
Hope this helps someone. I would jump on this if I hadn't already purchased a month ago

The reviews both professional and individual for those owning both proton and atom, all speak to how their new go to is not the atom but the proton, although to be fair, they are built for different purposes.
Atom is for idle heat. People complain it warms too much with activity.
Proton is for staying warm yet dumping heat once you're active. That duality is just amazing engineering.
Proton LT is thicker than FL, hence I gave my temperature ratings. FL is plenty warm for me here in 40s to 50s in so cal. Can't imagine wanting a jacket that's any warmer like the Atom for me.

The Proton is very lightweight and thinner, however it has become my favorite lightweight jacket. I absolutely love it. Got mine for less at REI
Correction: I don't have the Proton but the Atom SL, so my comparasion is with the Atom Lt and the Atom SL( Super-light)

How much did you pay at the REI? Tempted to get one, but if REI is cheaper, I don't mind wait a bit...
I ended up ordering from bergs ski shop which took a month to ship. Quite the hassle and stupendous communications.
Arcteryx direct is safe and legit. But yeah it's still a lot of money
