crazy in benchmarks but not noticeable in real life. my pc has the P31 nvme as boot and the S31 sata as a 2nd drive with games /apps on both. i couldnt tell you which drive is running which app in a blind test

Anyone know if this requires a thermal pad in a laptop?

I don't believe so. I bought the 1 tb in December and it swapped into the open bay I had on my laptop with nothing additional. Plenty fast for my needs, I now install all my games onto it and between the nvme games I already had and games on this drive I don't see any difference.

My boot drive is a P31, it is a great drive, but I really want to get a gen 4 for my next drive, once they come down some in price.

My system isn't new enough to take Gen4 (at least I don't think it is, I'm too lazy to check right now) but I'm just running an 860 Evo m.2 right now, the P31 would be a pretty significant upgrade and I can move this 860 to another system.

I also have an 860 secondary drive in my system, its my game drive. But the speed differences between it and an NVME drive is crazy.

Great drive and I literally just received these in a 1TB and 500gb from Amazon just a few days ago (haven't installed them). Amazon doesn't do price adjustments so I'm returning mine and reordered the same ones. Saved about $40 with this new sale.

No doubt, I've seen the numbers, I missed the last sale on the P31 and hope I don't miss the next one.

The article says that most users basically won't see a significant difference between the two.

Think I am going to jump on this as I have an M.2 drive that is around six or so years old and I think my mobo is starting to have issues with it as suddenly the computer it is in keeps running but is inaccessible. So I would clone that to the SSD and see if my problems go away. It is a server so it just drops from the network, no critical windows errors, nada.
