Wow that process is way too over my head. I didn't know it was so complicated and arduous. I'll just buy a Samsung.

It's one of those things that seems alot more complicated than it is. There are lots of videos you can follow along with. Should take less than 45 min.

Someone should start a side hussle and just bulk order these Fire slabs and then do this hocus pocus stuff to them and resell them.

Until I got a parental control recently, I didn't realize how much these fire devices are dialing home. It doesn't matter whether you are doing anything on them or not. If it is on and it's connected to internet, it's running in the background.

the problem is you can more or less get comparable and/or more powerful tablets for ~$100-$120. This includes no need to mess around with 3rd party firmware and bugs/issues/incompatibilities that I'm sure flashing these would have. Not really even worth the effort imo.

Galaxy Tab A 10" and Lenovo M10 tablets usually go on sale for that price point. If you're willing to spend a little more for a little extra space/more usability, the Galaxy Tab A7 10" 64gb usually goes on sale for $180 with a free 64gb SD card from Sam's and Costco.

how much are you willing to pay? took me less than 15 mins (that's including downloading the software). occassionally, it does turn back being a Fire device, but connecting it to the computer and changing back to "Android" takes a minute or so.

I think lineageos 17 is also available for these (it's the modern cyanogenmod) but even at this price going to wait a bit

fire tablets are android, just have a different launcher. thats why it's very easy to convert to an android tablet you are familiar with. only incompatibility would be hardware being too slow or not enough memory (these are bottom barrel hw specs).
