4k on a gaming laptop is basically useless. First, they're pretty much all going to be 60hz, which may be fine if you don't care about frame rate. If you play anything esports though (Counter Strike, DOTA, LoL, Overwatch, Call of Duty, etc) you're pretty much boned.

Second, I don't even think the 3000 series mobile GPUs are going to be able to hit native, steady 4k60. Maybe if you get a max wattage 3080 with 16GB of RAM, but even that's a stretch. It'll also probably cost over $3K. None of that even factors in a CPU bottleneck. If for whatever reason that 3080 is paired with an Intel CPU, forget about it.

Sure 1080p is on the lower side, especially in more expensive gaming laptops, but that was basically the sweet spot for mobile GPUs up to now. QHD (1440p) displays are finally starting to come out, and that really is the sweet spot for gaming laptops. Mobile GPUs will have a much easier time pushing that res at 120hz or 144hz. 4K is just excessive and a waste of money. Unless you watch movies on your laptop, output it to an older 4K TV, or do work that can make use of the higher resolution, you're not going to take advantage of it. And if it's a 13" to 15" display you probably still won't take advantage of the resolution.
Working now. Keep trying.

That's about what I figured. So are people paying this pricetag simply for the brand name?

Or Impatient....Most the new Laptops folks can't actually get their hands on for another month or two....but I would definitely want to wait especially since they are also paired with 11th Gen or 5xxx Ryzen.

The deal is better if you can use cash back sites and the Amex 10% cash back. Then you're save an extra 20%+
