We're making changes to how Free users access LastPass across device types. LastPass offers access across two device types – computers (including all browsers running on desktops and laptops) or mobile devices (including mobile phones, smart watches, and tablets). Starting March 16th, 2021, LastPass Free will only include access on unlimited devices of one type

Lastpass is changing your ability to use it on all your devices. I'm sure this is a decision made by its acquirer - LogMeIn.

What's changing in LastPass Free?

Beginning March 16, 2021, LastPass Free will include access on one device type of your choice. The first device you login with on or after March 16 will set your active device type.

If you choose computer as your device type, LastPass Free will work on all computers in your life:

ALL desktop computers
ALL laptop computers

If you choose mobile as your device type, LastPass Free will work on all mobile devices in your life:

ALL mobile phones
ALL tablets
ALL smartwatches

A certain cashback site has 20% cashback on LastPass Premium purchases.

Note: I generally do not mention cashback websites because they may be competing against Slickdeals for affiliate links. However, there's a high chance Slickdeals wouldn't be earning anything from LastPass Premium, and more importantly, I want to help save Slickdeals members money. (20% of $27 = $5.40.)

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Please don't move to bitwarden. New users mean they will start charging for the free service lol

Another here who just moved to bitwarden. Great job LastPass, great way to lose a large percentage of your users.

I started with LasPass but moved onto to Bitwarden a few years ago. Never looked back.

Giving Bitwarden a try to see how it goes. I used to pay the ~$10 a year for the LP pro service but then they added everything to the free product, so I stopped paying for pro. If Bitwarden works out, I will likely pay the $10 a year to support the developer - I just don't think LP is worth the $36 a year (normal price).

Logmein is pretty good at driving away free/low paying customers, Yes I am still bitter - which is probably why I am willing to switch, even if I wind up paying for something else - lol.

Can't we just setup a second account and copy all the passwords from the main account? Main account would be set for mobile use. Second account set for computer use. Downside would be when you change a pw you'd have to change it on both accounts.

It should work and likely periodic one way refresh from desktop version to mobile version as mobile is mostly readonly.

The question is if you want to go through that process while there are other better options like bitwarden.

Does anyone have a feel for how the Bitwarden extension compares to Lastpass's, not in terms of features but impact on browsing? Lastpass's has a reputation for being heavy.

Add another to the Bitwarden bandwagon. I installed their apps (mobile, browser) months ago just to check out the hype (open-source, affordable, rave reviews). They seem solid enough. Was putting off possible hassle of transferring from LastPass until... something like this. Being able to use app on both PC and mobile is absolutely essential for most people! They really should have more paid tiers at least, for people who only need that. Too late now. I don't see Bitwarden making the same mistakes anytime soon. And I'm happy to subscribe at $10/year if only for the support.

It's possible, but it's not the case right now. No use in getting caught up in hypotheticals.

Cost of moving to a new password manager is minimal. If bitwarden becomes unaffordable or expensive, I can just move to another free solution like keepass. So far the bitwarden developer has been sensible with features in free tier and pricing for premium tier. I honestly don't mind paying $1 per month to them if the free tier becomes more restrictive.. but no way I'm paying $2.5+ per month for an app when there are so many free options available.
