Does it make sense to buy travel insurance any longer?

For the cost of the trip, that is.
I ask this because most airlines and even destinations have greatly relaxed their policies with regards to changes of itinerary to the point where even if you don't "get your money back", you don't lose it either. This is the main reason I'd buy travel insurance, to protect the OOP expenses, not really for the "accident" type provisions (e.g. plane crash).
We are going to FL in April and DW asked me if I'd bought trip insurance - it would only cover flight tickets for like $1600, and the cheapest (not necessarily best) insurance is over $100. Meanwhile, American Airlines has made their cancellation policy far more liberal.

$75 for <$150 for me=waste. but if I was to spend 1600...hmm $100 doesn't sound bad
O .. it says you will be refunded by the way you paid, but I've only received vouchers. I've canceled about 4 flights since 11/20 with them
International health and evacuation insurance might be useful if you do a lot of traveling and drinking in the third world.

Helped me when we had to cancel our trip because of the snowstorm / weather warnings earlier this month. And since it's part of the card benefits, no need to pay extra.
