Games release DLC (usually in the first 12 months after a release). A season pass is a way for folks to order the entirety of the planned content before release or buy the bundle of DLC at a discounted rate v buying each DLC individually.
For BL3 DLC was released in Dec, Mar, Jun, and Aug in the first year. They announced some additional DLC (Season 2) which is very different in its offerings and mirrors the successful formats of games like Fortnite. Season 1 was stand alone story add ons that add to the game.

i played it just as much as the others, grind to get best loot and all that, 100s of hours across all the characters... they've made huge changes since launch to weapons and balancing, really fleshed out skill trees and their interactions with class mods / artifacts, you can get insanely OP with the right loadout and build.
it's a pretty fantastic game honestly. if you enjoyed the first two, you'll like this one as well (skip that one between 2 and 3, we'll pretend it didn't happen
the DLCs were all great as well, tons of content.
