deal [adorama.com]
$649 + free s/h (add to cart if you do not see the sale price)
These need a solid amp to get the best out of them. These also have the latest headband, which is not only much softer, more comfy but does not rely on rubber tension for clamping power, so it should be much more reliable.
It also comes in a new color and box is marked Adorama exclusive

$229 for reasonably good sound : BasX A-100 Stereo Flex Amplifier [emotiva.com]
This doesn't maximize what the HE6se is capable of but they drive them pretty well if you install the jumpers to give the full power to the headphone jack. And if you also have some easier to drive headphones like the HD650/600 (or HD6XX) they will sound fantastic with the BasX.
A step up from that is the Monolith Liquid Platinum on sale right now for $499 (usually $799)
Monolith by Monoprice Liquid Platinum Balanced Headphone Amplifier [monoprice.com]
Not a huge dramatic sonic difference from the BasX but you can definitely hear the difference.
Another step up but still within a budget (under $1000) is the Flux FA-10 and it should make the HE6se really shine at $749 (plus $100 shipping)
FA-10 Class-A Headphone Amplifier [fluxlab-acoustics.com]
This headphone amp has a ton of power and I'd expect HE6se to sound great with this amp. I personally haven't heard this one but it has some really good reviews.
What mods? Not familiar with what can be nodded on headphones.
Please never give advice on anything ever again. Deal?

Need a amp for this. Preferably made in USA, was trying to do a whole "made in usa" setup but already bought these and I have a mojo.
Does it involve earwax, or a hdmi port?
Give them a listen with the highest quality music available, expensive DACs/amps/software, and that POS overpriced apple cable.. You won't find better audio quality for under $800
Tested the Airpods Max with different combinations and honestly, it's far to clinical sounding. Not bright. Clinical. They lack depth. Everything feels squeezed into a small soundstage and then forced through. I compared them against popular and acclaimed offerings from drop (hd6xx & k7xx) and they did well in this price bracket, but costing more than twice the price, they are an insanely hard sell. Compared to serious cans (lcd2, dt1990, dan Clark aeon) Apple simply isnt in the same conversation.
