I got this laptop on cyber Monday for $460 but has 8gb at 3200mhz vs. 16gb on this one. and mine has touchscreen. Otherwise the specs are all the same. Wanted to give someone who's interested a reference of what this has been around for. I personally really find the laptop snappy for general work/email/office and videos. Haven't had a chance to play any games on it yet so can't comment on that. I hope this helps!

Usb C data transfer only? At this price, that's a hard pass
Also 4xx and chips are LAST year's model.. typically the discounting starts late January, but is off to a late start.. the pandemic buying of laptops is over.. now they will have to compete on price/specs again

With a 13,788 benchmark, it seems very capable. I hope you're correct that prices will drop noticeably. Seen some decent values over the last few months already. Maybe the extra supply will bring prices down considerably like it has for PPE/sanitizers. Makes good sense.

Once the california long shore backlog is taken care of there will be a glut of lots of products but inflation will eat into the willingness to discount too much.. like March of 2015/2016..

I bought it during Black Friday sale for $470ish. It's faster than my Dell XPS 13 i7 at half the price. I thought it was a steal at $470. Screen brightness is not great but I normally am not able to use my Dell XPS 13 on full screen brightness either. I use this one with an external 4K 40'' Samsung TV so works pretty good for me. Time will tell about durability but built quality is decent 6.5/10 (XPS 13 being 8/10 and MacBooks being 10/10)
That is a better deal and if you can spend the extra amount and Costco membership then go for it. Apart from having better configuration and warranty, that is a higher tier model as well. HP Pavilion is like Dell Inspiron 5000 series whereas this model, is HP's lowest range and does not have any name but referred by their screen size (Like HP 15, HP 14, HP 17) and comparable to Inspiron 3000 series. So, that Costco model has slightly better build quality and keyboard and a bit better looking.
