The "U" means the chip is designed for laptops and mobile devices, as "U" chips are Intel's "ultra-low power" models. They're "low power" because they use even less power than the "T" models and have slower speeds than their full-size, non "U" equivalents.

Intel and AMD have been making all laptop CPUs including flagship models marked 'U' for the last 5 years or more!

Intel 6600U, Intel 8265U.
AMD 3250U, 4650U etc.

T series is a low power desktop processor and U series is low power laptop processor.

A lot of compromises: outdated processor (2 gens prior to current), no Thunderbolt 3 or PD charging, shorter battery life than 2-in-1s alike.

Still a good choice for basic productivity and media needs.

The lack of USB-C charging really sucks. I also am disappointed that it doesn't have a dock for a stylus. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Also, Samsung's S-pen isn't compatible, for those who are in their ecosystem. Kinda a miss for me.
