I've gotten many for work here and there and never had one fail so far. But then again rarely ever see a network switch fail at all. Usually only ciscos that are failing
Yes, it multiples one ethernet to multiple. You can attach to a router to add more ports, yes. This will not block, alter, or shape traffic (no firewall).

If a room only has 1 internet connection, can I use this to connect to more devices in that room?

And switches doesn't have firewall right? Need router for that? also can I run this off a router to create more connections to more devices?

I got a very similar looking Netgear 5-port switch for $13.49. Only a 3-year warranty though. This: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S98Y...UTF8&psc=1

How much better is this TP-Link one?

I just had this in my cart last night but was leaning towards this one from D-Link instead mainly for size/aesthetic, but functionally they seem the same. Any reason I should switch and get the TP-Link instead? https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B008P...UTF8&psc=1

All the switch/hub fails I've seen were from power surges.

Yep unmanaged switches are easy. I have 6 rooms in my house wired going to a central router. In each room I have one of these plug in to the wall outlet. Plug the TV, game system, streaming stick, computer, etc into them. Never any issues.
