If you're new to Starbucks blends, the general rule is that what they call light roast is really a medium. What they call medium is really very dark. And what they call dark is burnt quite a bit.

I've had plenty of great, fresh roasted coffee that I ground at home and I've had pre ground coffee from a bag at the supermarket, and like most people that aren't involved in feeling a false sense of superiority for their sense of taste, I enjoyed both!

Also, as others have mentioned, a Starbucks "Blond" roast is really about a 7 or 7.5 on a 1-10 scale of degree of roast.

This might explain why the dark roast I got from a different local roaster brand tasted so different from starbucks dark.

Hi thanks for sharing your expertise, i just got a coffee grinder to try this for the first time and ordered Lavazzo beans from the other deal. So you are saying even thkse whole beans are not good anymore because it will be way past their roast dates even when vacuum sealed? I am after a good taste, what's your recommendation, how or where can I get a coffee beans that are roasted daily and are good coffee (i means ralphs, trader Joe's Gson, wholefoods, or other places) or you recommend getting a roaster ( i don't know if i want to spend that much yet). I just want to learn, and thank you in advance. I upped my tea game with Saffron/Cardamom Persian Black Tea and I can't go back to tea bags, it's butchering the tea, so I sense you and a few others here know how to make yoir coffee really well. 🙏

Sorry to be unclear. Whole bean would be fine to last a while and not ground up. Once you grind it, the shelf life is shorter. Especially getting a 20oz. bag of ground coffee it will get a noticeably different flavor from ounce 1 to ounce 20. I've had whole bean in an open bag for a month and still fine for the most part.

I always think a coffee maker goes too fast when brewing and I always pour the made coffee back over the grinds to get a little more flavor.
