TigerDirect[tigerdirect.com] has HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF Desktop PC - i5-7500 3.4GHz 4C, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, DVD-ROM, GigE, USB-C, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (refurbished) for $379.99 + Free Shipping
Just curious what's the deal with old gen computers? For last few days there was 2nd gen, 5th gen, now 7th gen. Sure they are still good for basic office work and browsing internet, but I guess not for near $400? Am I missing something?
DVD-ROM???
Besides a DVD drive/recorder having been rendered useless years ago.
I thought they stopped manufacturing ROM drives a decade ago, since it would be just a few extra dollars to include the recording feature.
Been curious - again - how long it will take for adepts of Anti-dvd-drive cult to appear here
I will NEVER buy from TigerDirect again. They sold me a product as refurbished that was very obviously completely destroyed, and I had to talk to them on the phone for over an hour to get them to take it back.

I think we're living in a technologically spoiled age where old-gen computers are robust enough to run a multitude of tasks. I can find uses for any of these machines if I cared to spend the electricity for them. For the past few months, I've been using my old Core Duo laptops just as much as my "old" i7 (gen 4).

Well I've been using my 5th gen/8GB (original), 1TB, DVD Acer which I got refurbish for $190 years ago (to be exact Feb '15, so 6 years) thanks to SD with 750Ti/250GB ssd/+8GB ram upgrade till last month when it decided it's time to go. Not gonna complain, it was a power horse for PS/IL, some light/med gaming and even for AE animation.
But it was 6 years ago and cost me (before update) $199 free shipping. Keep in mind back in '15 it was new CPU.
Nowaday deals for basically same kind of 5th-7th gen systems which cost near $400 when you can catch a deal for let say Dell 10th gen with decent GPU for $500+ - that kind of surprised me.

But I think maybe this $300 system is a better deal?

For similar specs just add a $55 500GB NVMe boot drive and $30 for 8GB ram;

It pops up fairly often, every other week or so in one shape or form. https://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php?src=SearchBarV2&q=dell&pp=20&pricemax=380&filter%5B%5D=3&forumid%5B%5D=71&forumid%5B%5D=30&forumid%5B%5D=9&forumid%5B%5D=25&forumid%5B%5D=4&forumid%5B%5D=8&forumid%5B%5D=10&forumid%5B%5D=13&forumid%5B%5D=38&forumid%5B%5D=39&forumid%5B%5D=53&f orumid%5B%5D=54&r=1

So for the same amount of money I can make three purchases to have a computer with less ram. How is that better?
The i3 is a little bit better than the 7000 series i5 but yes I dunno if I think that I would go with that over this.
