If you're cooking a lot of smaller pieces that need temp checks the ultra fast thermapen is a game changer. Let's say you're cooking a dozen chicken thighs, you want to probe each of them. Having the thermapen vs a slower thermometer is the difference between opening the grill for 30 seconds vs 1-2 minutes. It makes life so much easier to have a faster thermometer.

Convince me why I need this over the Weber instant read for $15 or my iGrill 4-probe wifi thermometer? No, really, convince me. I need a reason to spend $85 on this. Got thermometer and boot in cart.

These are considered the standard. If you think a 15 dollar thermpro is the same, I'll tell you now it's not. The only thing I'd put in your 99th percentile is a javelin pro duo and it costs $55. The Javelin's range is up to 482 degrees. The mk4 is up to 572 degrees. There are some other differences that may mean nothing to you but might to someone looking to invest into one.
Some think that a ninja blender with its 90 day warranty is on the level of a Vitamix or Blendtec. I'm not here to tell you how to spend your money, but if you think a 15 dollar thermometer suits your cooking needs that's what matters.

One of the best non "open box" deals on the MK4. If you're not too big on the color try getting the silicone boot which fully covers the thermapen and it also glows in the dark and has a magnet.

Argh, I jumped on this at $73. This has to be the lowest price for the Mk4.

Also, for people down on white, it doesn't actually get dirtier than the other colors. If anything, you'll be more aware of how dirty your tools are.
