If you're cooking a lot of smaller pieces that need temp checks the ultra fast thermapen is a game changer. Let's say you're cooking a dozen chicken thighs, you want to probe each of them. Having the thermapen vs a slower thermometer is the difference between opening the grill for 30 seconds vs 1-2 minutes. It makes life so much easier to have a faster thermometer.

Convince me why I need this over the Weber instant read for $15 or my iGrill 4-probe wifi thermometer? No, really, convince me. I need a reason to spend $85 on this. Got thermometer and boot in cart.

These are considered the standard. If you think a 15 dollar thermpro is the same, I'll tell you now it's not. The only thing I'd put in your 99th percentile is a javelin pro duo and it costs $55. The Javelin's range is up to 482 degrees. The mk4 is up to 572 degrees. There are some other differences that may mean nothing to you but might to someone looking to invest into one.
Some think that a ninja blender with its 90 day warranty is on the level of a Vitamix or Blendtec. I'm not here to tell you how to spend your money, but if you think a 15 dollar thermometer suits your cooking needs that's what matters.

I have went through two of those instant reads that all of a sudden wasn't showing the right temp after a while using, I even had it replaced from weber with the same problem showing up again. After that I said no more of this cheap stuff. Now the wifi thermometer I am not sure. If you find no issues, no need to upgrade, as the thermapen is quite pricy.

For me I first got the DOT thermometer on sale from here for my reverse sear steaks, now I got this one, new with warranty extension from my credit card since it is new. I also got myself a good case from here to keep both my dot and thermapen.

Reliability and accuracy. If you don't care about those, don't buy it.
And quality, I started out with the cheap Amazon knock off and the probe broke off after a couple of months. Got one of these and it's sturdy. Plus quicker, more accurate reads.

I have had the previous version and very accurate and handy. I keep getting tempted by this model since it has a display that rotates. But, based on two other products I purchased from them I wonder if they have a new model in the works (or maybe just feeling the competition)?

Not to slam Thermoworks but I have found this Inkbird Rechargable Waterproof Instant Read Thermometer IHT-1P to be an eye wink slower in response to the Thermopen and every bit as accurate after performing an ice water to boiling water test. I bought the Inkbird for $12.50 when they had a 50% off sale but they are generally around $20.

This may be an ok price but there are products out there that will do 99% of what this thing does, at 15-20% of the cost.
Please list said thermometer's.

I've owned an MK4 approximately 4 years. This is after going thru 6 to 7 of the type that stay in the meat while in the BBQ. They all broke or stopped functioning within a short time. Granted the MK4 is not the same type, it is in fact far superior to any other instant read thermometer I've ever tried.

Their own Thermopop is a great option at lower cost. Unless you're absolutely looking for the 'instantaneous' read of the Pen (which is certainly nice)-- I have two of the Thermopops and use them all around the kitchen and bbq. Customer service was awesome when I had a problem too.

I have an inkbird and a thermoworks probe. IMO i think they both do fine.

I agree the inkbird is great cuz it's cheap and can be calibrated. I keep the inkbird in the fridge for others in the home to use and don't worry about it being lost or lent to friends.

I received an offer after adding the Mk4 to the cart for a discounted Thermoworks Industrial IR thermometer.

Does anyone have any input on their industrial IR thermometer? Seems like a good price of $45...
