I still can't believe bluetooth wasn't built into the switch. Sigh
Not really a deal. Was randomly looking into Bluetooth audio for Switch and it's been this price. Not sure how this is different, but it has a different product page. Appears to be the same manufacturer, but different product?

Bro, all bluetooth is bidirectional by definition. You are reading too much into the info you are looking at.

Bluetooth transmitter really means it's the central / master device. Bluetooth receiver really means it is a peripheral / slave device. However transmitter / receiver have become the lay person nomenclature. It does not preclude or include mic capability in their intended definitions.

Bluetooth audio is the AD2P bluetooth profile. A sub profile is the headset HSP profile. Both the transmitter and receiver necessarily would support both AD2P and HSP in order to "hear" and "speak" for headset use.

Now I know that doesn't answer your question about this product, but it should clarify why the assumptions you were making wouldn't necessarily be informative.

The real question is whether it supports the headset profile.

I didn't see a mention of a mic or speaking anywhere in the description or the reviews. Also, the description states "5. This is a Bluetooth transmitter not a receiver, it will bring audio resource to your devices."

Those things combined is what makes me think it will only send audio.

This mentions aptx low latency. Does the headphones also need to support that? I have a hard time actually finding headphones that have this. What are some decent but not insanely expensive phones that have aptx LL?
yes both sides must support the codec. I got the falwedi s6 and they do support LL. They are pretty decent and pretty cheap. aptx LL headphones and earbuds are hard to find / search for.

For this, it wouldn't matter I think. AptX low latency is on a few bluetooth/wi-fi headphone devices but basically no real hardware devices (phones, tablets) built in, which is frustrating to say the least. It's the only bluetooth standard that delivers latency well below 100ms (around 30 to 40ms if I remember correctly) as opposed to general bluetooth delays that are 150 to 300ms.

30 to 40 for gaming is acceptable (for me at least) but you basically have to have a 3rd party adapter for AptX LL transmission - any more latency and I find games unplayable given the delay.

All good info, just wanted to add for those that don't already have a LL headset, vanilla aptX at around 120ms is still acceptable (for me at least) with games that don't punish a little latency. I've tested this Mii transmitter with SBC, vanilla aptX, and aptX LL. SBC is basically unplayable and caused lip-syncing issues in cutscenes. Vanilla aptX was acceptable if still noticeable when paying close attention. AptX LL on the other hand isn't something you can really detect without a reference to directly compare with.

I wish that adoption of LL and Adaptive would speed up... I think LL is kinda a lost cause considering it's been around for nearly a decade now and adoption is still low. But maybe adaptive can become a new standard since it ostensibly combines the best of both worlds.

Trying to understand this thing. Does the USB provide a audio output device? So if using this w/ Windows, you'd just change the audio output to the new audio output device and you're good?
Yes, I do this with a separate adapter (it's a funny shape though, since it's meant to mount on the switch, but it's handy that you can use it for either purpose)

Most bluetooth headsets have an unacceptably high latency for gaming, the audio would be completely out of sync with the game (a quarter second is not uncommon). Users would blame Nintendo for this since they wouldn't understand it's the fault of the headsets. Better to not include a feature at all, than to include one that only works 10% of the time and upsets users the other 90% of the time.

Thanks, I was wondering about that as well. Another question, if you using it docked how do you control the volume level if your earbuds don't have volume control? Will you have to use the volume buttons on the console?

Looks like thy are different models. One is ML-400 and the other ML-401. That being said, I have no idea what the differences are.

No, thankfully we can be lazy and stay on our couch. the Switch can change the volume of the console while docked using the controller. Just hold down the home button and get to the menu that usually just has sleep. When a USB sound device is connected, a volume bar is added.

Avantree has decently priced aptx devices. I use their aptx optical tx and soundbar at home. Thougg I haven't tries their headphones, it's a step to the right direction.

I have never tried via Bluetooth, but you certainly can with a headset that has a mic plugged into the headphone jack. My kid uses that for fortnite and talks with his friends all the time.
Yea they didn't include it because the Bluetooth headset profile is from the early 2000s and sounds like trash, no aptx no even sbc in headset mode, never got past that uncool one ear jawbone headset grade sound.

When windows screws up from time to time with pairing and gets stuck in headset mode its just bad lol

The bodge is real with Bluetooth, slowly being fixed with each revision https://www.headphonesty.com/2021/01/bluetooth-versions/

But it doesnt look like theyve added a new headset profile yet

I use a similar device (which supports 2-way) to chat with friends on fortnite on the switch. It definitely is supported.
