Been watching this particular knife for a while, and this is the lowest I've seen it in at least a year. I was looking for something to use for camping and/or an emergency go-bag for utility use. It had good reviews and a few videos showing how durable it is, for the price.

At a glance looks like a good geometry, but the first thing I checked was for a flat grind, and this one is hollow grind - so not as sturdy under heavy use. Jumped over to the reviews and a lot of people have cracked their blades batoning sticks. So, maybe the steel is too brittle-- hardened for a good edge but not well-tempered. While it might be a fine knife for slicing things, it's not a knife I would carry as my only knife, which kinda of defeats the purpose for me.

If you plan on using this for survival/ bushcraft, maybe consider pairing it with goggles! (:

I was eyeballing Schrade knives as an affordable survival knife several years ago. Since I have found some Ontario Knife Works knives that are US made and appear to be built to higher standards. Specifically the Ontario Knife Company 8680 Sp-2 Survival is currently at $37.92 but I paid $26.99 back in 2019.

Another knife that I really enjoy is the Gerber Prodigy Survival Knife, Serrated Edge, Black [22-41121] purchased in 2015 for $49.71, currently going for $82.98.

Both of these are US made knives and appear to be great quality - I haven't really pushed either knife hard at all but the fit and finish appear to be great, blade thickness is a huge plus as well for heavy use. Anyway - my two cents on something comparable if you are looking for alternatives. Reviews on the the Schrade SCHF36 weren't great.

The schf36 is a compromise knife, it's good all around but not the best at anything. For examples.... a spear is better at piercing, a kitchen knife (thin) is better at slicing, a hatchet/machete is better at push cutting but a survival/bushcraft knife does it all well, not the best in any though. Get a knife for YOUR needs, but understand what your real needs are. If making game traps (for animals) is an important need for you then a Swedish Mora knife would be a better bushcraft knife. But it is a smaller blade, thinner, lousy if your primary need is to fulfill your survival fantasies. Understand what your real needs are first, then you can find a knife to match your needs. The schf36 for $25 is a good value for a competent knife, a little on the heavy side (quarter inch thickness). It will probably do well at most to all of your knife needs and at $25 if you loose it for whatever reason your only out $25.
