I have these same bars that I picked up from a thrift store for a few bucks so I can't comment on the price and whether or not it's good. They're sturdy and support my 180lb frame without much worry. I use them in my basement on my stall mats and they don't really move at all. The grip portion of them has started to split due to extended use but aside from that they're great.
Was going to get these for my living room setup but they only go to 35 inches high which is a bit low and the main con is they have to be bolted together. I originally thought they were a sliding lock pin design so the can be resized and stored quickly but that's not the case
This can be used for a variety of exercises, other than dips. Eg:
L-sit
Planche
Handstand
Back Lever
Front Lever
Knee/Leg Raises
Bodyweight Rows
Incline Push-Up (on its side)
These are easy to put in the closet when not in use, offer a few exercises not possible on a tower's dip bars, and are much cheaper than a tower. The pull-up bar is the single benefit a tower has over this, which some people may not need/want, and if they do, they could always grab a cheap doorway pullup bar. Towers require significantly more room, as they are not easily stored away. This item will definitely suit many people's needs better than a tower.

I bought a different one of these that basically looks like a knock-off...but higher-priced:

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B077Z...UTF8&psc=1

I know it's not same product (or is it?) but form factor is same, at least. I've been using it for a few months now and I like it. Am about 6', 240lbs. I do have a full power rack (Titan T-3) so thought about getting add-on dip bars for that for about same price...but opted for these so could easily put them away. Have been happy, bottomline.

Using couch or chairs dont provide the stability you need. Anybody who has used a chair or a couch knows why. As for gym, I'll let you take a guess.
