In the Woodcraft flier this week (https://www.woodcraft.com/pages/w...sale-flyer now available online. Lowest price I've seen on this generally well-regarded & reviewed router.

The SKIL 14A Fixed and Plunge Base Router allows you to optimize your work as you switch between base styles. With 14 amps of power, you can tackle nearly any type of routing task.

Setting up your SKIL router is simple with precise depth adjustments – three coarse depth settings and micro-depth adjustment. The speed control LCD display helps you choose the correct speed, based on the bit type and material. With soft start technology, the router starts slow and ramps up to provide time to adjust. Electronic feedback within the motor maintains optimum RPM as you rout. Included collets allow for routing with either 1/2" or 1/4" shank router bits.

The ergonomic handles limit vibration and reduce fatigue over long use. The live tool indicator lights up when the plunge router is connected to power, keeping you alert and safe.

Corded, yes.

The Bosch 1617EVSPK seems to be the go-to plunge router kit as it's a solid router at a pretty good price point, even better when on-sale. This Skil unit is less than 1/2 of that price.

Since Chervon bought Skil from Bosch they have been making efforts to improve the brand. I don't think that they are trying to move into the professional/contractor grade market, but their tools have been very aggressively priced and generally well received. The build quality seems much better than it was 10 years ago.

If I needed a router (with or without the router base) I would definitely give this hard consideration. The soft start, LCD screen & controls, and other options are hard to beat at this price.
Guys, be careful. I am currently stuck in the warranty process for this router.

The speed is stuck at max RPM, the display is frozen and none of the buttons are responsive. Of course I tried unplugging and plugging back in several times. I asked in the amazon questions if there was a way to reset it, but Skil said no.

The first time I bought this, it worked for maybe 3 times before it got stuck. Luckily, I was within the amazon return period, so I got a replacement.

The second time, I used it a single time before I had the same problem. Unfortunately, I was out of the Amazon return period.

So I contacted Skil customer service and filed a warranty claim. They said they'd send a replacement unit and a pre paid shipping label. It's now been almost a month since they said this and I've seen neither of them. I called today and the lady said there was a shipping delay and that IT HADN'T BEEN SHIPPED OUT YET. Almost one month later, they haven't shipped out a replacement.

Now, this stuck-at-max-rpm problem didn't happen to me while I while I was using a bit. I don't know if this will happen while you're using a large diameter bit and make it explode.

The first time I spoke with them, I asked them if they were aware of the problem and they said no. Even though if you check the reviews for this item ont heir website, there is at least one review describing this exact problem.

Edit: in case anyone cares, a new router was delivered today. We'll see how long it lasts...
Just ordered this through their website using code SAWDUST for free shipping. $107.74 after tax in CA. Thanks OP!

I'm assuming this is corded right?

Anyones thoughts? I'm looking for a plunge router that'll be good enough, curious if this is okay.

Thanks!

I'm not a contractor, and the only thing I have now is a Ryobi Trim Router, that I managed to do some small stuff with, but I had to borrow a better router from someone to make biscuits and just figured it'd be nice to have my own solid router.

I may look at this. No idea what Woodcraft is though.

Appears amazon matched the price plus shipping $113.

The Craftsman professional routers had the prefix 320 (Chervon HK Limited Group), meaning Chervon made the Craftsman Professional routers for Craftsman. Chervon is the owner of Skil.

Hard to say if the componentry is the same or not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that they just carried over a lot of the same parts to keep costs down.

I've had a Craftsman Professional 320 28190 (non-plunge 2 1/4 HP) router for years. It has been an absolutely stellar tool and is my go-to for the majority of the work I do.

I own 2 of these routers. One for my handheld things, one in my router table. They are a great value. I have not had any issues and they work great.

I have the Bosch 1617. I'm going to order this and see how they compare.
My Bosch was destined for my custom 40 x40" CNC machine, but I may put this in it's place and keep the Bosch for hand held use. I'll try to remember to update this post once I get it and see how they differ.

This deal runs for the rest of the month (3/31/21) in case anyone is worried about missing a short deal.

Anyone can compare this to the cheap metabo from Lowe's that's been on the front page for $90 or so? I returned that one as it felt very cheap and not so great plunge base movement.

I've used both (I think - I have a Craftsman router that looks verrrrry similar to this). It's about the same. I returned the Metabo because of some small issue I can't remember, and I've stuck with the Craftsman since I got a fixed and plunge base for under $100. It does everything I need it to. Maybe not as intuitive as more expensive routers, but as long as I never use an expensive router, I don't have to think about it.

I wonder if Lowes will price match and then honor a 10% off with military discount to make this even slicker. 🤔
