Please provide context to the your research. I am not sure about you, but I will continue trust the science, the infectious disease specialists, doctors, and surgeons that I am a patient of and consider friends. Talk to any doctor, ER or ICU or surgical nurse for actual medical advice. They absolutely work, especially when everyone in a group is wearing one!

It's funny that it's already March 2021 and yet people are still arguing whether masks work or not.
I'm a PhD student in Bioengineering at one of the top Bioengineering programs in the nation, and I've been following literature reviews on masks ever since the pandemic started. Yes there have been conflicting conclusions on whether masks reduce infection risk for the people wearing them. However:
1) Most controlled studies are based on the flu virus (such as the one you quoted) due to abundant researches on its nature of transmission as well as treatment, whereas studies on COVID are mostly observational studies or surveys for obvious ethic reasons. Whether studies on influenza directly translate to COVID is a big question mark.
2) While wearing a mask might not help lower your risk of getting the virus from other people, it is proven that wearing a mask CAN reduce your emission of aerosols and droplets through speech and respiratory activities such as sneezing and coughing. There has been an increasing number of literatures on this topic since COVID started, I'm sure if you just google it you will be able to find them, here's the most recent one I read about: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstr...t/9329130. I'm not going to argue whether wearing a mask protects you, but it does protect others from you in case you have COVID, which is the major reason behind CDC's implementation of masks.
3) Taking a step back, I'd still wear a mask to protect myself from COVID even though some studies showed no reduction in transmission (with flu) while wearing a mask. To me, it seems the only negative of wearing a mask is the minor discomfort, with the potential benefit of protecting myself from COVID (again, unproven, thus potential), so I'll happily take it.
All these being said, the most important thing is still staying at home as much as you can, because at the end of the day, any mask wearing is just preventative.

Why are you clicking let alone commenting on a mask deal if you don't find them useful ? Just ignore it and move along.

Just ordered and paid $5 non member surcharge. Clearly a price mistake.

I got 5 of them shipped for $4.99 + tax by adding 9 and a filler then reducing the number to 5 and removing the filler. We'll see if it sticks.
