What are these designed for? I'm trying to upgrade for faster Editing/Rendering.

That's exactly where you'll see the most gains over a SATA SSD. NVMe is king when comes it sequential read-writes (which is what you're doing) and PCIe 4.0 means even more of that. Just make you you have a PCIe 4.0-capable motherboard

Edit: just realized the Amazon one is "Extreme Performance" vs "Max Performance" at Newegg, quick check looks like write speeds are 3000 vs 4400mbps

1 TB Available for $150 at Amazon without heat sink. I ordered it without because my motherboard has the NVME right under where my 3090 will mount and I was afraid of the clearance. After reading reviews, I opted for a $10 low profile heat sink from Amazon. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07TL...UTF8&psc=1

Year over year not really a price cut.. need to lower demand for resellers to cut prices.

not gonna happen cuz people keep buying these even if the extra speed isn't benefitting in their application.

The novelty will wear off once enough consumers have ssd of any type.

Quick question about the heatsinks for nvme drives. My msi board came with them. It has a plastic film over it you pull off. Do I leave the squishy stuff on it ? Does that transfer heat?

They are awesome, you will like it. One thing to keep in mind if the heatsink screws down over the SSD is don't force it! The heatsink designs aren't always compatible with all chip types/thicknesses so if it feels too tight it may not work. If that's the case maybe you need a different heatsink or none at all.

What SSD are you using? this one?

The early nvme 3 mobos didn't come with heatsinks and some m.2 slots are so close to the cpu that you can only use a thin laptop copper heatsink.
