Better than BOGO because you can enjoy the free drink yourself
Add shots of espresso / extra pumps of syrup Woot
Most expensive one I made was like $7.30. I figure you could get to $10, but it would be hella nasty.

I made a $9 one at Starbucks Reserve by adding two shots to a venti Iced Hazelnut Bianco Latte. It was actually really good, but obviously a completely ripoff if not for free.

No, their main business is from "handcrafted" drinks like espresso-based ones, fraps and custom iced drinks, as well as beans. "Coffee" means just that, poured brewed coffee, that doesn't involve pulling espresso shots. Tea is hot water and a packet, and iced tea is also ready-made. They make WAY more money from drinks that are more involved to make.

That said, I don't know when was the last time I actually paid for a Starbucks drink since they ended sit-down service due to the pandemic nearly a year ago. The only times I go to one these days is to redeem stars, usually on drinkware, sometimes on food, very rarely on actual drinks. In the past I've usually only gotten those when I plan to sit down a while and do some work. With Panera's continuous free coffee offers, I don't see the point, especially since you can usually sit and stay at a Panera's. The coffee's not as good, of course, but a seat's a seat.
ok, understood - I just want a cup of coffee!

Am I missing something here, or is their main business based on purchases of hot brewed coffee or tea, Starbucks Reserve® beverages, or ready-to-drink beverages.

I always order a Venti iced drink without ice and then ask for a cup of ice. You can drink half and take the other half home and refrigerate for the next day. So about 4 iced Grande for the price of one Venti.
